| Lower caps...lower expectations! Internet sure is getting dim in Canada.
*Throws another squirrel on the treadmill*
There we should be able to go another 10 years on that! I'm located in Nova Scotia, one of the poorest provinces in Canada, and they just hiked the sales tax to 15%. As with everything, you pay more and get less.
It's all about being more efficient with what little you're given to work with. Be more productive, why with 2GB a month, 209,000 e-mails to rogers asking why they suck so much, should be more than enough.

1 edit | Interesting... Interesting how ISPs in eastern Canada (Rogers, Videotron, Bell) are tightening up caps, while ISPs in western Canada are either increasing them (Shaw) or not enforcing the caps (Telus).
Shaw Extreme just went up to 125GB (previously 100GB last month). Yeah, it's not that much, but Shaw's caps are often very loosely enforced, in other words unless you go above your cap by an "extreme" amount, they usually don't bother.
As for Telus, I have yet to hear anything about them actually enforcing caps except in extreme cases, therefore Telus could be considered "nearly unlimited".
Neither ISP charges overages.
Maybe it's the competition between these two (Shaw and Telus) that is causing this??? Why aren't we seeing a similar thing going on in the east?

| | Rogers cash grab! Totally disgusted with Rogers. Unfortunately, there isn't any good competition in Canada therefore we're stuck... we need some good American ISPs to come in and get down to some honest competition then you'll see the prices come down. | |
|
| | *sigh And we in the US were complaining about Comcast's 250GB cap. Still, this is just not a good trend. Seems like the ISPs are holding the internet hostage. | |

| | Tiers for New Customers Hi Everyone.
Just to clarify, existing customers are not affected by the changes made on the Ontario Lite/Extreme tiers. Rogers constantly reviews packages to meet needs of new/existing customers while remaining competitive. The Extreme Hi Speed package now has download speeds of 15Mbps.
Changes to these plans for new customers is in no way related to the Netflix announcement.
Thanks, Mary @RogersMary

Announcements like Netflix are a clear sign that the need for HIGHER caps is required. It meets the needs of Rogers not it's customers.

| Re: Tiers for New Customers The critical words here are "while remaining competitive" ...
Everything the big incumbents do is to comparatively meet what the other guy is doing as close as possible while attempting not to piss off too many people.
Bell's comparable package is Fibe 12 which has caps of 50GB with less punitive overages than Rogers. So, this says "let's lower our caps closer to Bell's" since we are "comparable to Bell".
Remember that the new meaning of competitive is "if they can have low caps, so can we" ... "if they can adjust speeds, so can we" ... it's not really "being competitive" ... because to be "competitive" would mean doing something that would be an agressive advantage.

Thanks, Mary @RogersMary Yes dropping the allotted bandwidth when the big bandwidth hungry programs are finally becoming main stream then the big company limited how much you can use the service in favor of their own VOD services is nothing short of comprising their business model for your own. IF you system cant handle the bandwidth for internet maybe you should free up all that bandwidth by removing your VOD service until you can supply the bandwidth the the services people already pay for like internet. To me its just a clear case of denying your customers options so as to force them to use your VOD services rather then access the internet which has far more content then any ISPs crappy VOD services.

| | Crappy company with crappy service And the only reason it can get away with this is its DSL competitor is BELL and they collude to offer worse services at higher prices...
Never been a better time to go with teksavvy as an ISP and get real service tho bell still abuses their customers by illegally traffic shaping another companies traffic against their will..
