Comments on news posted 2010-08-30 08:42:05: The New York Times recently issued yet another story that aims to downplay the slow but steady rise of Internet video and "debunk" cord cutting, noting that 88% of those surveyed still pay for TV service. ..

 | | Cord cutting TW in Manhattan This week or next the cable tv box is going back. Only ever watch CNBC and Bloomberg TV. Burn Notice is going to local OTA this season in reruns. Now turns out my broker's platfform TorS is offering CNBC in it. And Bloomberg TV has been free for years. Just keeping roadrunner until there's a cheaper offer or alternative. No FIOS yet on west side midtown. Not sure if it offers just broadband standalone. DSL sucks the mighty pipe. Breaks & slow even for cheaps. Once there's a dependable $20 decent broadband that's next & left step. Some people have a DISH on roof but that's not a real option for RT trading. Glad for the competition but it sure hasn't impacted the monopoly of TWC. Bye bye to that in this economy.

Kids in college or in their cableTV-less homes watch the sling. For $6/mo they've got full cable service. PQ isn't perfect, but it's on par with other internet TV. -- 3D Movies and Virtual Reality | |

| Re: Sling it Another good option is the have the parents get an extra DirecTV receiver ($5/mth mirror fee) Dish Network insist on all rcvr's being connected to a phone line but directv doesn't care. about 5 plus years back when people started adding rcvrs to their accounts for their RV and cabin up north and so on the phone line requirment was dropped and just requested if possible. Also if you use a rcvr in a second location with a phone line on a dif. telephone number they don't really look at that, you'd think they would but its no problem. | |

1 edit | No--- Nobody cuts pay TV! Why they must be... ... all a bunch of pirates with illegal descramblers, or hacked DSS receivers, or Bandwidth Hogs downloading pirated shows via BitTorrent....
It must be.... We tell you what to watch and what to like. We say when you can stop. YOU don't get to cut our cord! We know you're a thief. We need to lobby for laws REQUIRING you to pay subscriptions for PayTV because we know you're going to steal it anyway, so....
Ah ha. The simple solution is to require manufacturers to put credit card readers on every monitor and TV, and then we'll give you a "Cap" of xx amount of viewing time and then you'll have to "Deposit" money or swipe your card to pay your "Overages"....
.... :/ Actually I'd better shut up. I might be giving them ideas.....

| | | I won't cord cut... I don't get this cord cutting stuff... you can't get access to everything without satellite service... I watch Fox News every night...plus during breaking news...you can't get Fox News's service online(you can get it on Sprint TV)... Another thing you cannot get(except on Apple products) is CBS... most of my TV viewing is of CBS shows, and not even all of those are online... And then the biggie...I love the NFL, and have to have Directv's NFL Sunday Ticket Superfan package... So, unless all of these services get available online, I won't be cord cutting! | |
