Ameritech Ahead of it's Time

Ameritech is currently running an annoying ad campaign where a family has to schedule their cable modem access during "off peak" periods. They have to change their life styles to sleep during the day because of their lack of foresight to buy Ameritech DSL (assuming they were one of the 10 people who actually can) instead of cable. LOL.

Fun, Pacific Bell has the exact same commercial...

I remember that last year, ordering DSL from them (and after that earthlink) was a nightmare which drive me to take cable. And that's working fine!

Re: Ameritech Ahead of it's Time

What's more amusing is that over the last year, Pac Bell has had a lot of peak-hour latency problems, causing slowdowns during peak hours (see pacbell forum, posts about the "Lag Monster").

I'm not really faulting PacBell for having problems - every ISP is going to have its share of issues and growing pains, but I really do think it's time for SBC to stop misinforming people (or at least grossly exaggerating the truth) and go with a different marketing approach.

That was certainly true when I was with Adelphia. Overnight speeds were full on, during the day they dropped amazingly, assuming the service even worked.

They also had a ridiculous item in their TOS that said any usage over 1GB per month was excessive and subject to penalty.

BS might help ISP's really compete with telco's.

Well all this BS might help ISP's really compete with telco's. Hell, why have a telco as an ISP if they can't offer service. Go with a covad ISP so you can actually use your connection.

Lies lies lies

"Great Internet Experience"

I've seen many a posts in my Tools forum about people complaining about bad BT connections. Ask the dozens of people how great it really is. From the test results, it's all local BT crap routing. Too many users, not enough backbone.

It would be great if they didn't use like a DS3 for the entire country...
