Sprint, TMO, ATTW/Mobilityjobs are far from being Union. 99% of those jobs are outsourced anyway. Sprint will NEVER be union, TMO either and Mobility's call centers are far and few between that are actually owned by T Mobility, LLC. CWA just has $$$ attached to T in getting more wireline jobs back to the US than anything. |

CWA is a jokeWho would take them seriously anyway? They use all caps in their argument. Some intern probably wrote that with his rich daddy supervising. |

CWA stuck on stupid! Are these people at the CWA out of their FUCKING minds?
Really... do these fuckheads have any common sense.
I've love to see who's getting the kickbacks and money under the table for supporting something that will ultimately hurt consumers.
Maybe what should happen is AT&T+TMobile+Sprint+Verizon should all merge, and 2 years later the DoJ break them up again into 20 smaller companies. It should take them 25+ years to recombine again. |

Typical union.Trying to prove it has a purpose and worth. No natter if it costs some of it's members jobs. No matter if it hoses the consumer over with higher prices. |

Is AT&T funding this?Of course they oppose Sprint - I'd bet my last dollar they have their hands far into Ma Bell's pockets right now. I wonder how much AT&T has "gifted" the CWA with for this little stunt.
What's more? Talk to anyone working for T-Mobile; they're guaranteed to have a few choice words about this horrifying potential merger. From that aspect, the CWA is not accurately representing the best interest of its own industry workers. |

Bad MoveThe union should stay neutral. Some people hate unions so much they would oppose this merger just to spite the union. |

Re: Is AT&T funding this?i have taken the time to talk with several TMO employees- and mangers of actual retail stores. I'm a TMO Business customer and everyone seems to like the idea. Nothing bad to say about it and are welcoming the change from DT. |

AT&T LayoffsDidn't AT&T just layoff a bunch of people a while back? Where was the Union then? I think the Union is dead wrong in this one, and I agree they should be staying neutral. |

Re: CWA stuck on stupid! It is a common tactic as reported here that AT&T has been greasing the palms of various advocacy groups to have them shill for this merger. The CWA is no different. |

The administraton is in the middle of a shouting matchThe corporations want this deal. The unions want this deal. Who ever though both sides of the aisle would agree on something?
Could both sides squeeze the deal through? The Obama administration is already on the bad side of organized labor since it failed to get card-check through. It's standing up for the union against Boeing. On the other hand, there is an election in 2012 and if the deal gets shot down then ATT, the biggest campaign donator might just decide that no candidate is worth their money.
An interesting few months are ahead of us. |

Bad thinkingI've been in an employee union over thirty years (not in telecom). The "CWA" leadership position favoring the Att/TMO merger is foolish, and will harm the union in the longrun.
Use your brain folks. |

Making unions illegal would solve many problemsThe unions are the source of most of our problems, NOT the answer. They artificially inflate prices on goods and services to the point that many people can not afford things that should be cheap. I wont disagree with the fact that at one time (a long, long time ago) the unions accomplished good things, however now they are nothing more than organized crime. Kill the unions and make people actually compete for their jobs and you will see everything improve. I know its an outrageous, outlandish concept that people should actually need to work for a living! |

Re: heh..The CWA won't agree with Sprint, because Sprint doesn't employ CWA workers. AT&T does.
THAT'S why they're supporting AT&T in the merger. They're figuring it's better to lose jobs from the company that employs them than agree with a company that doesn't.
There was a third option. Keep their yaps shut. Shoulda taken that path. |

Re: Is AT&T funding this?We have a T-Mobile call center where I live, and from what I've heard from employees and supervisors there, most have already mentally prepared themselves for the unemployment line. Most of them are just trying to make as much money as they can right now before the merger, because they know their center will be shut down afterward. |

Re: Making unions illegal would solve many problemsGreat idea! Make it easier for hard working Americans to be fired and laid-off at the whim of big business!
I won't argue that unions are the good guys; they definitely need some change and they need some corruption rooted out. But, you say you want to force people to actually compete for their jobs... without unions some of these jobs wouldn't even exist. The 'free-market' would have eliminated them or shipped them overseas long ago. |

Re: Is AT&T funding this?even if the AT&T deal doesn't go through, you're going to see a lot of belt tightening at T-mobile USA. T-mobile USA is going to have to cut costs to stay competitive since DT doesn't want to invest in them anymore. Sadly, they may well be on the unemployment line regardless of what happens. |

Re: heh..karl makes it sound like the CWA won't even lose any jobs in the AT&T deal. They'll actually add 20k T-mobile employees into the union. Probably at least a net positive for them overall. |

Merge with caution (or better, don't merge at all)Looks like the interests of AT&T and the CWA are the same with respect to the proposed purchase of T-Mobile. If big business and big labor want something, it's unusual for them not to get it. |

Four of those pieces have not been brought back together, and likely never will. • USWest(1). Formerly a part of Qwest, now a part of CenturyLink, • Bell Atlantic(2) and NYNEX(3), now a part of Verizon. • Western Electric(4), now a part of Alcatel. |
