Elite join:2002-10-03 Orange, CT | DOCSIS 3.0 I've got DOCSIS 3.0. I had to call Cablevision and request a new modem, but they didn't really give me a hard time.
I couldn't hit my 15Mbit downstream cap with DOCSIS 2.0, due to congestion. Not a problem at all anymore with 4 bonded downstream channels and DOCSIS 3.0 -- QUAD!!!! |

| 3.0 Here We've got Docsis 3.0 here supposed to have 50mbps but I am only getting half of that if I'm lucky. Here is the latest speed test: »www.speedtest.net/result/1622214796.png
I contacted ResorTV Cable they said they are replacing a router at the headend. |

I am in the same boat as you. Cox wants $100 for 50M plus a install fee of $50 what a rip off. I have a Docsis 3.0 modem but not going to pay $100 for internet service. |

Re: 3.0 Here I used to have a Docsis 2 modem while on the 12mbps plan with Charter... I upgraded to 25/3 and the modem couldnt handle the speed for some reason so I went out and bought a Docsis 3 modem and it fixed everything.. I actually downgraded my speed though since Charter just recently did away with the 25mbit tier and upgraded the other existing tiers. Im now on the 30/4 plan and my speed hits 60Mbps for a few secs before it drops...»www.speedtest.net/result/1622239518.png |

Re: Cost And how much benefit from 15 to 50 Mbps are you going to notice ? Websurfing/Email (not a whole lot) - unless you're uploading content to youtube/facebook Streaming - only if there's a congestion issue on the existing.
I'm on TWC's 'cheap' 10/1Mbps package, but since it has 'boost', I have bounced off the 34Mbps during the initial few seconds and speed tests. |

 | Small operatior Service Electric Cablevision has it now They just released 'Wideband 50' this week. »www.secv.com/wideband/
We've had 8 bonded downstream docsis channels and 3 bonded upstream channels for awhile now, but they finally published a new speed tier.
Will I subscribe to it? ABSOLUTELY NOT. It would cost me almost $60 MORE a month to go from 12/1 to 50/5.
I just wish they weren't so stingy with the upload.
Even on 12/1, my speeds are consistent because my docsis 3.0 modem locks onto multiple channels and that helps with contention within the area. 12 megs down is plenty for me... the upload just stinks.
Here's how I would do the speed tiers: 15 / 5 - default 30 / 10 - bronze upgrade 50 / 15 - silver upgrade 100 / 20 - gold upgrade |

 | wow.. I wonder if I can call Verizon and request a dual band "N" router with gigabit (router exchange)? I only have the 25/25 tier.. anyone ask yet?

Re: Cost If you have only one internet connected device probably not much. If you have 3 or 4 all trying stream HD videos 15 meg might be an issue. |

| reply to thegeek Got a good deal on a new SB Docsis 3.0 modem. I was tired of paying the rental fee each month. "Most" of the time its not the modem that goes bad, its the crappy plant to the house. With a lot of plants running voice now, the connections are better. Buy your own modem and save a bundle.
I can't justify paying the higher cost for the higher speed tiers. |

etaadmin join:2002-01-17 Dallas, TX kudos:1 | reply to en103 DOCSIS3.0 is not only about speed, D3 is also about congestion management and new services like interactive TV among others.
So DOCSIS3.0 is going to help a lot in congested nodes. |

Re: Cost Agreed. Anything higher than even 25MB is just not worth the exuberant cost.
Between cell and broadband bills, that's close to $230 a month as it is. Who is going to add another $50 to get 100MB? |

Re: DOCSIS 3.0 I think that Karl's note of TWC leisurely deploying DOCSIS 3.0 is false as they are in the process of deploying it in almost all major markets or will have done so in 2011 and by the end of 2012 100% DOCSIS 3.0 coverage. |

I know the financials are out there to read, but I haven't read them, so I don't know how many levels DOCSIS 3.0 has succeeded at. But it certainly seems to be an effective way of upgrading the cable plant from a user's perspective. |
