Comments on news posted 2012-01-27 08:58:32: We've often talked about how Canada was actually seeing some significant growth in their broadband sector early on, with users seeing faster speeds at fairly reasonable prices. ..

No Pretense

You do have to admire that at least there is no pretense of being inbred. There is always obfuscation at the FCC.

This is the kind of crap that needs to be outlawed. Telco execs going to the CRTC and FCC. RIAA lobbyists going to work as politicians in charge of internet laws. It's amazing how these crooks and their money control the technology we use because the other politicians are so non-technically inclined that they can't even recognize what the crooks are doing.

Lobbyists and workers of organizations like this should be permanently barred from seeking public office of any kind.

Housesitting

Katz is merely the INTERIM chairman, the guy who fills Finkestein's shoes so the CRTC can keep running while the Minister of Industry picks KvF's successor.

All political corruption is temporary, until the corrupted successor comes along.

next thing you know Mirko Bibic (@Bell Canada) becomes the next CRTC chair... =/

@teksavvy.com

When is the Prime Minister going to disband the CRTC?

Canada's only hope it seems is dial-up or satellite internet from other countries. Other than not using the internet at all you're at the complete mercy (the CRTC has zero, zilch, none no mercy whatsoever) of the CRTC.

Disgusting

The consumer is to blame for allowing the powers that be get away with this. While we hide in our chussy little cacoon and pretend we are seeing increase in prices while getting offered 3rd world speeds.

Once and still poor ex Soviet Union with less GDP than either US and Canada already have faster internet at much cheaper rates.

It's a shame, I remember when Canada had better broadband

Canada used to have a better broadband system than the United States, which had an OK standing in the rest of the world. US is lagging the world now, being behind United States is pretty bad.

With the FCC it's all about being a good party member and getting the job .

Re: It's a shame, I remember when Canada had better broadband

That's what happens when there is no competition and the major players are in collusion with eachother.

Open Canada's telecom industry up to foreign competition and then maybe we will see some change.

Also CRTC needs to be run by people who have a freakin' clue when it comes to technology. What did the last head of the CRTC refer to gigabytes as? Oh yeah that's right, he called them gigahertz.

If you listen to the sound bites from the hearing in front of the committee, Katz used the term "gigahertz" when referring to usage.

Industry sock puppets, without a clue.
