The Daily Caller first reported one week ago on emails and documents that indicate the Federal Communications Commission propped up LightSquared with favorable regulatory decisions as company executives met with administration officials at the White House and in other places. Obamas FCC also appears to have used its regulatory muscle to eliminate LightSquareds competitor, GlobalStar.
TheDC also uncovered a pattern of political contributions to Democrats that appear engineered to create a favorable political climate for LightSquared. Ahuja, who had never donated to Democrats before and has not since, gave the maximum allowable $30,400 contribution to the Democratic National Committee on the same day his lawyers were trying to arrange a meeting for him at the White House with top Obama technology adviser Aneesh Chopra and other officials.
»dailycaller.com/2012/02/21/docum···olyndra/
In emails between Ahujas lawyers and White House officials Ahuja wanted to meet with, his lawyers pointed out that he would attend an Obama fundraiser on or about the same day he wanted the meeting.
LightSquared spokesman Terry Neal did not immediately respond to TheDCs request for comment on the possible connections between Ahujas resignation and revelations published exclusively by TheDC.
The Obama administration FCC approved Harbingers purchase of SkyTerra after what appeared to be a series of favorable regulatory decisions amid White House visits.
In the press release, Falcone said he remains confident in LightSquareds future despite these new revelations and the companys reported challenges related to GPS interference issues. What did Lightsquared do to have the FCC finally rule against them - stop paying the Dem party for favors?
Edit: Falcone also put himself on Lightsquared's Board of Directors. I guess he wants to keep a closer eye on his minions. -- The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, I'm from the government and I'm here to help. »www.politico.com/2012-election/

More likely Falcone threw him overboard due to his inability to get the FCC to approve their project rollout. And now Falcone is on the Bd of Directors himself to keep a closer eye on things. |

 | And he would have gotten away with it... ... if it wernt for those meddling GPS signals! |

Now he is free to go back to India and ruin their GPS reception. |

The hedge fund owner knows nothing about technology, so he hires a bunch of YES men. Guess what, he got what he paid for
You don't start a technology based business unless the technology is proven, which is never was in this case |

Re: Lightsquared accused of buying FCC decisions in past years They tried to just muscle it through by paying contributions, a strategy that has worked for telecom giants for years.
... there's a catch though.... they were up against OTHER telecom giants and other big interests this time.
Simply put: They were up against other money set against them. Washington at it's finest. I think Lightsquared was particularly arrogant about it as well, they kept making clear statements, thinly disguised that if things go their way they'll pay. Much like the AT&T merger with T-Mobile, they just figured they'd throw cash and get what they wanted.
They both failed. -- "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini

Also, it's an election year so they'll want to try and score political points as well, but will be very careful to limit the scope of the investigation so it won't splatter over to their own interests. (Such as AT&T influence, etc) |

 | needed better lobbyists Obviously they didn't have the right lobbyist. They should have taken the "green" approach or maybe doing it for the children...but i digress. |

HIPAR join:2005-11-10 Tannersville, PA | Lightsquared still provides satellite communications so I'd suppose their satellite still can be utilized in that role. Perhaps it might still be able to bring internet to remote places.
There's no GPS compatibility problem with the satellite to earth signals but the uplink from ground terminals might still be a problem for nearby GPS receivers.
The problem is a financial one .. can the revenue delivered from the satellite operations offset operating costs? |

Re: Light dead satellite said by HIPAR:There's no GPS compatibility problem with the satellite to earth signals but the uplink from ground terminals might still be a problem for nearby GPS receivers. No, LightSquared's satellite is licensed for uplink in the 1626.5-1645.5 MHz and 1646.5-1660.5 MHz bands. GPS downlink frequencies are 1575.42 MHz (L1) and 1227.60 MHz (L2).
LightSquared is licensed for 1525-1544 MHz and 1545-1559 MHz for their _downlink_, but at that power level, it won't interfere with GPS. |

 | reply to Pakapab said by Pakapab:I'd still like to know what they are gonna do with that big ass satellite up there. SkyTerra 1 was designed for satellite data service to ground users. It has a huge reflector, which reduces antenna size and power consumption in mobile handsets.
It also has the ability to point up to 500 spot beams at North and South America, allowing reuse of frequency/bandwidth among users that are geographically separated. |
