The only thing keeping 1st world and western governments from completely destroying the internet (in its current form) are massive corporations who solely depend on it for revenue like paypal, amazon, microsoft, apple, facebook, google, ebay, cisco systems, etc.

If it weren't for these large corporations, the internet would be walled off and highly censored.

This is one of the very few times that I will root for corporations.
