TWC Says Prices in Article Are Wrong

I am told that Time Warner Cable is saying that the prices noted in this article are incorrect.

I'm only paying $19.95 monthly for their extreme 30/5 internet in WI. That's the TOTAL charge for ALL internet services, not an "Extra". Of course, I have the 2x2 bundle.

I don't work for TWC. I'm just a happy TWC customer.

Is that a promotonal price? Mine was not.

I'm currently paying $49.95 plus tax/fees (my bill is $52.45/month) in northeast WI for Extreme (30/5) service.

It's $20.00 more if I wanted to upgrade to the 50/5 service.

I can't believe how much prices vary from market to market...

SpeedTest
Yeah, I think I got the 30/5 for only $19.95 because of my bundle. I pay > $210.00 monthly for everything. Now this seems to be expensive, but I have 2 Explorer 8300HDC DVR's, and 1 normal box. I also have the Docsis 3 modem, and TWC installed a signal repeater/amplifier on the main input line, in my basement. I don't have ANY "caps" on my usage. I get consistently good speed tests of 30.76 download speed, and 5.03 upload. I don't use their modem for wireless. I have 2 Linksys routers that I use throughout my 3 story house for the wireless.

The one, and only problem I encounter, is with the Explorer DVR. While taping 1 program, if I want to watch another program I have taped, the Fast Forward/Rewind buttons are finicky. They don't always respond to the commands, and then suddenly they do. I have a feeling it's due to the crappy drive on the DVR, and the drive speed.

I've tried other "providers" and they didn't, well.... PROVIDE!

For me, TWC is the best solution in my area. FIOS ain't an option at my address.

what a ripoff...

cablevision has 50/8 for $44.90 (new customers)
this is a direct result of at&t's refusal to invest in proper wireline broadband infrastructure and compete

Way to kill brand recognition, TWC

What is it with companies that must learn the hard way? TWC spent countless millions over a decade and a half, branding a product that has become synonymous with high speed internet service. Everyone knows Road Runner.

Branding is one of the most important elements of marketing your product, and SUCCESSFULLY branding your product such that it's name becomes synonymous with its function is a long, hard, expensive process.

We call any facial tissue "Kleenex" and our steel wool pot scrubber a "Brillo Pad" even if it's SOS brand. Why? Because of highly successful branding campaigns.

And now TWC wants to dump their ubiquitous, highly successful brand name into the trash.

Take something "catchy" that's associated with a beloved cartoon character known for speed, and really BLAH it down with names like "Standard Internet" and "Turbo Internet".

Utterly forgettable.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

its called payments to TW for the RoadRunner brand and image. You don't get that for free any more when you're NOT part of TW Media.

AOL

Is the AOL brand coming to come back out as AOL Broadband? Would make a great partner to get rid of RR.com- as it is owned by Warner Brothers/TW Media. Use the Email and IPs and nothing more.

BS

Yeah, we subscribe to 10/1 Wideband, and we got a nasty $20 surprise hike on the last bill.

When we called to ask, they told us that our deal ($29.99 a month) was a 1 year *trial*.

This is the same BS they pulled when they were comcast and suddenly pulled all but our local channels, saying that we should not still be enjoying our "1 year free trial".

Considering switching to Uverse, half the speed for 30 bucks for a year.

Total BS.

Goodbye TWC, for now...

I've been playing the TWC pricing game for the past few years, calling every six months to get a discount. When I called for the discount about a week ago, they offered only $2/mo off and a (unneeded) bump to the next tier -- no further discount. Even the retention dept wouldn't budge. So a week later, I'm on U-verse.

It's only been a few days, but it's perfectly fine so far. I don't like the massive modem, the 250GB cap, or the 1-yr contract, but they waived the $100 equipment fee, and I'll save about $150 over the year (after the $50 activation fee). No phone or video service required. Assuming AT&T's reliability is good (has been for my biz clients), when the promo pricing is up in a year, I'll go with whoever is cheaper.

Re: Goodbye TWC, for now...

I learned the hard way... compare and switch every year to the cheapest dollar amount. I was on AT&T DSL paying $39/month for 3Mbps, I just signed up with TWC getting just the 3Mbps internet, no cable or phone service purchased, for $19/month! I have this price locked in for 12 months and will shop around again when my term is up. I am so happy my DSL modem started having issues and AT&T didn't want to give me a new one after being a 5+ year loyal customer. It was a blessing my modem started going out when TWC is running such a good deal. The only way to get a better deal is switch, or at least be prepared to when you call your current provider.

Upload

Talk about sh*tty upload speeds. 2 Mbps? Are you kidding me?

I'm on Verizon 4G and get 10 Mbps up

TC

@sbcglobal.net

Re: Upload

Nope I'm not kidding - 3Mbps download and less upload. I honestly wouldn't notice anything faster for what I do. Bottom line I cut my bill in half by switching from AT&T to Time Warner. Would you switch if you could get the EXACT same speed for half the cost?

thankfully...

...I was able to finally dump TW last year for Verizon FiOS 35/35. I get 3 times as much speed, twice as many HD channels, and the hi def is infinitely better. Oh, for $35 dollars (and climbing) cheaper. TW can call it whatever they want but I call it a rip off.

It sucks for me since I live in Verizon areas and FIOS service exists in the cities, but no FIOS (and DSL) in my neighborhood. Ugh!

I e-mailed los.support@twcable.com about this ...

... and a few minutes (wow, that was fast!) later replied with

"... I understand that you want to know if we are going to have rate increases.

I will be more than happy to assist you.

Year by year we have to adjust our services rates, but please do not trust any information that is
not listed on our official web site: www.timewarnercable.com

We do have any plans to increase the rates soon, but until the next year and as always we will
notify all of our customers..."

We'll see... :P

check prices in France, England, Germany, Finland.

packages include cable TV channels and are between 26 Euros and 37 Euros per month. You can get up to 99 Mbps on non-peak hours for around 37 Euros. Much cheaper and faster than any company in the U.S.

Bulk Rate Price Change

I live in a Coop with Bulk Rate Pricing.

I wonder how my rate will change after my first year is up.
I think I just get $10 off whatever the current price will be.

Does anyone else know how this will work?

$42.95 for 3/1?

$42.95 for 3/1? Gee I save $10.12 a month by having DSL Extreme instead as they bill Me for $32.83 a month for 3M/768K, but only if Yer in an AT&T or Verizon area and only if one has Dry Loop as I do.

No Big Surprise

This has actually been in the works for years. Prior to TWC's split from Time Warner. Eventually TWC will ditch the "Cable" title as well. TWC wants to change their name all together but its become such a common place that all of corporate management has mixed feelings about it. Either way, eventually TWC will ditch is "former image" completely. Step one was separating from Time Warner. Next was their new "eye/ear" logo. It will happen. It's always been apart of their plan
