Throtteling problem.

I always thought their TV service was good and kept it for a few years as it was cheaper than cable. I also ordered Uverse MAX when we got it as I like to download linux ISO and DVD files.

The big problem was the hard core throttling on our MAX internet service. If I was downloading a DVD iso all was good. But me and my wife like to play Warcraft together (very modest bandwidth). If only one of us was playing pings were always great. However when we both tried playing together (Warcraft being the only thing using the net) after a few min our game ping times would suddenly shoot into the hundreds to +1000 and we would constantly disconnect.

I spent a month on constant calls with support with no one knowing "why" or having any suggestion. I was told more than once it was my equipment (which I know it wasn't). So I ordered Time Warner broadband to run side by side my Uverse.

When I was on standard Time Warner we could both play Warcraft just fine. I would then switch to Uverse Max and we could not. One guy said "Maybe the system thinks you are doing something you shouldn't?". But most had no idea or suggestions.

I didn't want to switch as Time Warner was more expensive for less speed. But it at least could work for a 2 player Warcraft that MAX Uverse could not handle at all. I kept the TV service.

Switching to cable

My promo with AT&T Uverse ADSL2+ service was ending, which would have raised my bill from $19.95 to $43.00 for 6MB service. I had an online chat session with AT&T to ask if they any promos I could sign up for. 6MB is the max my line can handle so I can't get a promo for upgrading. The rep suggested that I could move to 3MB service for $38.00, even after I told her I can get 10MB service for $29.99 from Time Warner. I flatly told her "No".

I've got TWC coming on Saturday to connect my cable modem.

Too bad, AT&T. You had a chance to retain a customer and you blew it.

been done before

forced upgrades are nothing new, similar to when a cable company switches from Analog TV to Digital, they do a forced upgrade, and it costs you more, but this takes it a step further by making you pay for something that is supposed to be free.
