Skype told me that my calls would be free....thus, I use it for free. Now that they are telling me that ads will be put in and use a "exciting" line that is being mocked almost universally, I will not use it.

The only good thing that will come of this is when backlash causes them to lose customers and they respond by removing the ads. Then they'll start the moon walk in an attempt to spin it as nothing more than an experiment. They'll close with the venerable, "We are a customer-driven company. The customer has spoken and doggoned, we listened!"
I feel bad for the folks that started with Skype before Microsoft bought them. After this, I have to assume their morale has to be pretty low. I know, I know, companies are in business to make money, not just neat stuff that never makes a profit. But the marketing speak alone has to tank morale every time the Skype employees have to explain it to peer groups, friends and family. | |

kudos:48 | Re: Often use Skype while in game or etc Yeah this is about the only time I use Skype as well, unless on the rare chances I'm video chatting family that's out of state, see if no one says anything about this, and it works without audio or alt tabbing out of your game (which btw Skype has a way to read you're in game and put a Skype window in the game itself) you know the next thing they're going to do is video ad's.
Blocking the other persons video to show you some ad for wtfever, if that happens then I'll definitely be deleting Skype from my PC..... I can deal with the audio ad's as long as they aren't playing audio in my ear and interrupting the conversation...

| I was mad at first... but then I remember that Google does all of this too, and we're ok with it, but if Microsoft does it, then it's just 1 stop short of hell-on-earth for everyone.
If you are naive enough to believe that Google doesn't record your voice conversations in Gchat/Gvoice/Hangouts, then I've got some beachfront property in North Dakota to sell you.
At least if you buy Skype credit, the ads don't appear. Google doesn't even GIVE you that option. Just buy the credit and never use it, then you don't have to deal with the ads.

it's not fair having to pay more then something is worth, the basis of "trade" originally was to trade one thing(be it time or products) for something else(time or products) at as close to equivalently , then someone came up with the idea of currency, which in turn created a situation where someone could trade in-equivalently for time or products, merchants wouldn't go out and sell goods and travel, they would buy goods before they got to places, and sell them for more then they purchased them for, or work with others ones to do the same thing, or hire people underneath them to do the job for them, welcome to the creation of management.
so try and tell me how "paying for anything" equates to anything resembling fair.
how is having someone come into your company, tell you whats wrong with it getting paid a stupid sum of money, and walking off without solving the problem "fair".
how is someone that goes to work, at most 50 days in a year, gets paid more then someone who's at work every day of the year with more education.
sorry princess, the people that actually WORK should get paid, the people that programmed the application do get paid(you pay for premium features of the program), the upper management (which is usually under worked to an amount that would make most people vomit) are the only ones that are making money off of this, considerably more then the people actually producing the program or providing support for it.
again, explain how that is fair.
don't get me started on "professional unions", make sure you pay your protection money now children. but don't get in trouble because we won't do anything for you if your smart and productive, now if your stupid and useless, expect to have a job forever.
also think about how much they had to "pay" someone to add this new "feature", when it already worked perfectly(barring needed updates and bug fixes), it costs more to add to a program then it does to keep the backend and bugfixing. | |

User to user calls exchange data directly between the users. The only thing anyone needs MS for is to maintain the database of user names so that when you tell it you want to call Bob219, it knows what IP address to connect to. If Skype allowed users to enter IP addresses directly, they wouldn't need MS at all. | |
