 | Time to claim my reward Hey TWC, I heard that Google Fiber is faster than anything you could ever dream of offering. Where's my $50? |

After having FTTH installed w/Utopia, I would never return to expensive/old/dated & stale copper internet...wonder how much Google's 1Gbps symmetrical service will cost since I could now upgrade to this speed for $300/month! |

 | Here is what happened last time... Time Warner got competition in some areas of KC several years back with Everest (purchased by SureWest). They lowered prices for people that could get Everest and raised it in all other local areas they served to make up for that lost revenue. I won't be surprised to see the same thing happen this time around, as there are many Kansas suburbs and areas that won't be served by Google. |

Re: Time to claim my reward But their little ad specifically asks for tips, rumors, and rumblings. What you state is a known fact, so you get NOTHING! |
|
 | True. But it could be taken as a tip. |

Re: The greedy incumbents should be worried... Is there one post that you do not comment on regarding your amazing fiber? I have fiber also but do not feel the need to do so. |

 | I need some more fiber.... man this morning was rough. |

 | Rate Hike I'm waiting for the rate hike announcement so they can pay for this program. |

Re: The greedy incumbents should be worried... Yeah, but you have to be surrounded by pasty white polygamists who believe in magic underwear.
And doesn't UTOPIA still have bandwidth caps? According to XMission it does: »www.xmission.com/utopia
I think I'll stick with my uncapped Time Warner 50/5 Mbps connection. The upload speed might be terrible... but even at 5 Mbps I can STILL upload more data in one month than you are allowed to use on your "amazing" fiber connection!
You can download over 15 TB and upload over 1.5 TB in a month on a 50/5 Mbps connection. What the hell are you going to do with a 1 Gbps connection with a 1 TB cap? I'll take the uncapped 50 Mbps connection which allows 15x as much data transfer, thank you very much.
When Time Warner officially jumps on the bandwidth capping greed train and makes caps mandatory for all of their subscribers, then I'll agree that your fiber is better. Until then, you've been sold a Ferrari that you're only allowed to drive for 5 miles each month. |

Yeah, about those 'soft' caps...not really an issue here but I haven't strayed into the 1.5TB area yet...
Not sure about the magic undies...maybe they are edible!? |

Once you get past 10mbit/s it's really window dressing for the vast majority of users. Hell, a decent majority wouldn't even notice anything greater than 3mbit/s to 5mbit/s. |

 | reply to somms Something tells me your fiber optic ISP would not be pleased with me.

I've transferred more data in 8 months over copper than your fiber ISP would let you transfer in 4 1/2 years. |

Aren't there typical NDA's in place for contractors involved in the deployment efforts? you kiddin... timewarner and comcast have shown that they can bend the politicians to their own agendas what makes you think they cant do it again?, the only difference here is google has 10x more money than what comcast or old timer... lol, could dream, timewarner will more than likely lower the price down so low and not implement caps in the area
that alone will make them a winner.., google will def have to fight back to keep it going |

Re: Time to claim my reward Businesses will benefit the most. In addition, I would say that it's not all about the speed, but more about the price. Google will really push ISPs in the area to adjust. |
