Finally catching up to year old Android products.

Hmm... An iPhone with a larger screen (ala every decent Android phone released in the last year), turn by turn navigation (most every Android phone ever) and lte (available on most every Android phone last year), and an iPad with the same size screen as the Google Nexus 7.....and a fresh set of lawsuits accusing Android products of ripping them off.

Earnings review

I don't know about the exact date, but we should see something before the end of September, and that's because its the end of the 3rd quarter. Apple is expecting "something" in the 4th quarter to jump up the revenues. They maintained their 4th quarter guidance when they announced their 2nd quarter earnings. It may be a full array of products or just 1 product launch, but do expect more then just a new IOS

However...

... multiple sources are pointing out that many are tiring of Apple's "trickle out features" ways and ar thinking of trying Android or maybe even Win8 for this years new phone.
I think Apple may need to work a little harder to maintain market share this year.

Re: Finally catching up to year old Android products.

Those are all features multiple Android phones have, which is not a fair comparison. If there was only one Android phone released only by Google, then it would be a fair comparison. Last i checked iOS is only on iPhone only made by Apple.

While Android from Google is made by Motorola, Samsung, LG, HTC, etc, thus you have at least 4 makers that can churn out updated hardware faster then a company that is known to refresh once a year their phone.

Just in time for my November 30th upgrade eligibility date

I activated my iPhone 4 on Verizon on March 30th, 2011 and I will be eligible for an upgrade on November 30th of this year. If they release an LTE iPhone, I'll gladly get in on November 30th. I have also added a Jetpack, an iPad, and two dumb phones (for mom and grandma) to the mix. We finally kicked AT&T to the curb.

I won't believe any rumors until they are announced by Apple themselves. I remember back in the '90s, Apple Computers were the laughing stock of computers and Windows was superior (although I have been a fan of Apple computers since I was 5 years old back in 1988) and could work them myself by the time I was in first grade. I remember spending school days in the computer lab back in first grade while our classroom was being painted and playing on the old Apple II computers. Back then Apple computers were used primarily in the educational market. Now Windows based computers are considered the laughing stock of the computer market. When I got my first home computer back in 1999, it was an Apple iMac 333 MHz in Blueberry color case. Ever since then, every computer I've owned was a Mac.

I just wished I would have bought Apple stock back in 1998 when it was 30 something a share. Now it's over 500 something a share. If I would have bought Apple stock back then, I'd be laughing my way to the bank today.

LTE iPhone

Personally I am glad I am on a two year contract with my iPhone 4S. I have a gut feeling a lot of people will have battery issues with this first generation LTE device. Perhaps by the second or third generation they will solve the problems.

Anyone remember how early 3G devices ate batteries?

I have the LTE iPad on my Share Everything plan and I have to charge it every night. If they come out with an LTE iPhone, I'll probably get a Morphie Juice pack for it.

Re: I need to upgrade

I would switch to Verizon in the process. Call quality and reliability are much better. And when we lost power last October during the snowstorm, VZW worked just fine but AT&T phones were rendered useless.

There are still battery issues with 4G Android phones. My friend works for Verizon Wireless and gets complaints daily. His phone is usually dead by the end of the work day. He usually has to turn off his 4G. Personally I see no appeal in 4G, especially with Verizon getting rid of unlimited data. I won't mind upgrading once I know they have made a battery that can last a full day with 4G speeds.

They will probably use the gobi 9615 which is 28nm technology so they can support VoLTE and all of the world bands which precluded them from the ipad 3. This will also be much better on battery depending upon the signal. So Sprint w/ 1900 LTE is going to suck those batteries dry because their coverage will suck until they move some LTE to 800 Mhz. So don't expect miracles on Sprint w/ the iphone. This will also support 1x advanced (HD voice as Sprint calls it) so when they move voice to 800 too then calls will get better too.

This will be huge for VZW and ATT to move the iphone guys into LTE to free up for all of the legacy devices. As for the droid guys, expect your bandwidth to drop

Re: LTE iPhone

For some people such as myself it may be more cost effective to stay with the iPhone vs. going to another platform e.i. Android.

I've made a substantial investment in applications and accessories which are compatible with the iOS platform. Yessss I could probably download the same apps for free for Android but it wouldn't be fair to the developer.

At least, I know for a fact that all of my apps will work on the next gen device. Apple makes sure of that, my iphone does what I need it to do... when I travel I pop in a foreign SIM card and it works (factory unlocked) with no issues.

I'm happy not rooting my phone as I encountered an issue once while traveling, the darned think bricked itself and I couldn't make or receive phone calls... I had to run to the hotel and do a complete reset and re-install apps. So now a days I keep it "vanilla."

Thats the real reason why i never went back to Android. Had too many apps and also my eco system works with my iphone.

Re: I need to upgrade

Um, I think you might reconsider that. But hey, I bought VZ when it was $18/sh (now over $40)... so your contribution is appreciated!

Ya know, the opposite is where I'm at. ATT voice (from other ATT) callers sounds like landline phone. VZW callers sound like marbles. All based on traffic, use, cell, interference, phones...
but if VZW phones are more reliable near you, go for it!

Those that think Apple will release the 5th Gen iPhone in Sept, well, that is like saying gas prices will go up soon. They will, just can't say when. But hey, click the rumor sites and feed their ads. Meanwhile, my phone works, in my basement, and it's ATT.

(OMG, I hope my friends don't see I praised a phone company...)
