 | the requirements are hollow Verizon will just ignore them like they do everything else, and will end up "selling" the spectrum to the already hoarding AT&T, and AT&T will sit on it to quash competition even more. When does the new revolution start? |

If the licenses are parceled out across a wide array of minor competitors, the effect will be like flea bites on an elephant. -- »www.mittromney.com/s/repeal-and-···bamacare »www.mittromney.com/issues/health-care |

 | This spectrum should be unattractive to AT&T as it's saddled with a short (1yr) buildout string attached. I see big T's involvement as a play to make it more expensive for the smaller competitors. |

 | is the spectrum even worth anything? with those buildout requirements, is this spectrum even worth anything to anyone?
I don't see anyone getting it done in a year. FCC bailout? |

| The FCC is as useless as a pile of crap. Period. End of sentence. I can't even remember when they had a y balls to go after and/or enforce an REAL requirements that actually had any teeth. Sure, they will fine a company from time to time, but for what? A small infraction, and probably only for publicity to make it look they are worth something. Bigger infractions get sent to court, and ultimately get dismissed anyway. The FCC is OWNED buy the companies they are supposed to regulate. |

 | ! Isn't there a spectrum shortage? Why would Verizon do this?

1 edit | hefty regulation it's probably hefty regulation tied to the spectrum more than anything as to why Verizon never used 700mhz a & b blocks..
key provisions were the obvious deployment requirements and timeframe, but the next was to donate services over these frequencies for first responders which made the spectrum much less valueable.. however, rather than have a minority carrier earn a good reputation, it was worth it for Veizon to sit on the spectrum and not let another carrier gain any momentum... that's basically what it's all about.. when your more than twice the size of a smaller competitior-- in many cases 5 - 10x these days..
this is a failure of government to not reign in at&t and verizon.. and they will have to deal with it sooner or later.. |

Re: And.. The FCC auctioned it off and the cable companies bought it. At the time they thought they could build out a wireless network and compete in the mobile business. Cox was the only one that actually started to build out then found out it would be too expensive to make it work. So they abandoned the project. |

| AT&T needs it AT&T needs the spectrum, and if Verizon has to divest it to AT&T, that's good, as both carriers will be in a more equal competitive position long term, which is a good thing.
It doesn't matter if AT&T and Verizon have 10mhz of spectrum each, or 100mhz of spectrum each, as long as the amount between the two is very similar. |

| 700mhz spectrum.. btw, the 700mhz block spectrum hasn't been utilized since the early days of Nextel/Sprint Iden/PTT service.. vitually all cellco spectrum's been at frequencies of 1ghz and above..
add to that the financial hurdles of getting service off the ground.. |
