Sometimes a company that's good in one line of business (LOB) can stretch/reinvent itself somewhere else. Far too often things like this end up a big failure and stock holders should slam the crap out of the board and executive management when it goes thud. |

 | GameTap Didn't Time Warner try this with GameTap already? And then sold it to some french company to get gutted to a shell of its former self?
I liked GameTap, I subscribed to GameTap for several years. They had a great client, some great games, and a reasonable price. But then they started dumping games (well more likely publishers wanted more money), dumped the original content in the client, and dropped a ton of features. The last straw for me was after the transition from TWC the new company dropped the client all together for this super crappy web interface that never worked right.
It had such potential but it always seemed like Time Warner wasn't in it for the long haul and if it hadn't turned a massive profit in the first year they wanted rid of it. |

| skip one problem and move on to another! Why don't all these companies try to fix their "supposed bandwidth saturation problem" first? See how this is going to work. They will start the service. Then realize people are slowing down the system and limit everyone to 3 hours of use a month. |

rradina join:2000-08-08 Chesterfield, MO | reply to milkman82 I understand what these companies are doing. They are looking for new sources of revenue and growth. Nothing wrong with that but if they are admitting their core product that makes them what they are has reached maturity and/or is in decline, they should buy something to grow rather than build-from-scratch. |

I wish stupid people in our country would just wake up and see the writing on the wall, so tired of having to pay for people letting them get away with this......

 | OnLive imploded? Hardly, they just sold the majority of their stock to someone else. they're still live and well and doing business. Their OnLine Desktop is a HUGE hit as well. and who said AT&T wasn't still an investor? they could have kept their shares as other companies did. |

Far too often things like this end up a big failure and stock holders should slam the crap out of the board and executive management when it goes thud. And stockholders and the board will also slam them for not finding ways to increase revenue?
So what do you propose they do instead of poo-pooing something before you even know how it will work or what it will be? |

Re: GameTap No, TWC didn't own GameTap, Time Warner/TBS did. 2 separate companies. And it was sold off to the French company in 2008, long after TWC was no longer part of Time Warner. |

And it was dropped to make room for more TV channels and the game carts did not have the ram for the bigger games. |

Re: What's sad about this said by hottboiinnc:Who said that 2% would use this service? If you're a family with kids, and your ISP is constantly spamming you in your email and actual mail service with flyers for $15 a month gaming service, and your kids can get the same games as the X-box 360 and PS3, are you going to pay $300 for a 360/PS3 plus $60 a game, + $10 a month for X-Box live service? Or pay $15 a month + possibly $10 - $20 a game? (if they even charge for the games) All I'm saying is I can see this getting way bigger than 2% if they market it right and guarantee the ability of multiplayer. But then again if they do get this off the ground I bet they consider it a "service" and as such don't count it towards the cap, or attempt to do that anyway.
