Another fee...

Great... another reason for Brighthouse to collect more money. Bad thing is the users who are on digital phone don't have an option to use their own equipment... Otherwise, I would gladly drag my Motorola SB out of the box...

BH & TWC

Isn't BH still part of some how connected to TWC? At one time BH was TWC in a good share of Michigan until TW and & AOL merged.

One less box of Fodge Rounds!

While I am not happy about the fee I also think the benefits are worth it. I have gone thru 2 modems over the past 2 years due to lighting damage. There are also no retail MTA's for those who also have phone service.

The Motorola SURFboard SB5101U DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem sells for $52.99 at Amazon.com. »www.amazon.com/Motorola-SURFboar···02M3SHXA That means it will take me almost 27 months to pay for the modem and hope it does not get fried!

The way I see it I just have to buy one less box of Fudge Rounds »www.littledebbie.com/products/fu···unds.asp this month.

No Modem Fees & No Frills

From what is being stated to myself and around the Internet, a new no-frills Internet company will soon be launching this month. Services include, xDSL, 4G LTE/WiMax Services, VoIP, and Cable reaching 99% of ALL cable customers. TV services in limited areas (WITHOUT price hikes) and IPTV launching in 2013 across the entire US - regardless of your ISP. This company also does NOT impose caps.

collusion

people should start the letter writing & phone calls to congress... apparently cable companies are colluding to raise prices beyond what consumers can stand.. and this tend to happen when one company starts.. and others follow lock-step because they think they can get away with it..

it' the very definition of price collusion and not a REAL cost of doing business

Congress won't get in the middle. They're not in DC to police businesses and businesses will sue them until the US goes and barrows more money from China and RBS.

Re: One less box of Fodge Rounds!

Agreed. If you factor a DOCSIS 3.0 (Sb6141) at $100 on Amazon, it will take 33 months to break even.
If you've gone through 2 modems in 2 years, the $3/month is worth it right there.

Plus there is the "tech" advantage. Why buy a Docsis 2.0 if you are getting 3.0 service and speed packages, yes?

Yes they have an option. Don't get Brighthouse phone service.

Re: collusion

I guess Charter didn't get the memo since they recently dumped their $7 a month modem rental fee.

I've owned my own equipment for almost 10 years. never have had a modem get fried. Only time I have replaced it is going from docsis 1.1 to 2 to 3.

88-yr old's analogy -- coming soon to a restaurant near you

The 88 year old customer gave a fine analogy .... "It's like charging $2 to wash your dishes at a restaurant."

I soon expect many of the tech savvy fine dining establishments in this country imposing a $1 dishwashing and china/cutlery maintenance surcharge on every dish ordered.

Here in FL is a bit different. We get over 5000 lighting strikes in just the Orlando area during some of our storms. Central Florida is the lighting capital of the world!!!

I'm sorry but you take the dishes home at a restaurant? Nope.

Modem Picture

The picture associated with this article is a Motorola SB5100, which I happen to have with Optimum. I notice it is not on the list of approved modems from Bright House.

there is precedent for congress actually listening to the people who vote for them.. not saying it always works or even more than half the time.. but on issues people consider important.. such as ones that can make a hornet's nest look like a slo-mo porn movie..

Got any sources of this or just the usual spit out some FUD and run?

Without the dishes, they wouldn't be able to sell you food.

The same for the modem, without a modem you can't get service.

Just raise the monthly rate, make it clear, simple, be honest.
