Next Silicon ValleyWill Kansas City become the next Silicon Valley?!? |
|
|
Not likely to become top 5 tech town overall but maybe top 10. KC metro is already a top 10 telcom town, I think KC ranks 7th in telcom employment, was 5th back when Sprint peaked and ATT had major presence. |

Re: Next Silicon ValleyEverything I've read has indicated that Kansas City has a real problem attracting and retaining IT talent. I personally was offered a job there but ended up declining it after not liking the city itself. I might be somewhat biased, but I would rather live in Omaha than Kansas City.
It really hurt to say no to Google fiber....and ironically it was brought up in my interview. |

KC ranks top 10 in attracting young educated people in %. IT jobs are growing faster than population even though KC is growing. Not surprising that would be the word in Omaha though. » www.newgeography.com/con ··· -magnets |

When is Phoenix?I hope they turn it on in Phoenix, then maybe my Samsung Exhibit II 4G phone will actually work. I'd have to put it back to the stock rom though because I tried installing CM9 to see if that would give it 3G capability so I could actually use it. It did give it 3G but at a very slow speed of 384Kb and it can't get 4G anymore so I don't recommend it. |

Whydo they compare themselves with only ATT? Customers who bring unlocked devices to T-Mobile can save up to $50 a month compared to AT&T. How do they compare to Verizon or Sprint as far as price per month? |
|
|
Because only AT&T phones that have a SIM will work unless you have one of the new iPhone 5's and nobody from Verizon with an iPhone 5 can afford to leave to move over until their 2 yr contract is up. They are trying to attract AT&T customers who are currently paying outrageous fees of over $100/mo for service now. |

Thanks for the reply but I still wonder how much the Verizon and Sprint customers in KC pay for the same service TMo is offering. |

Re: WhyThey have a $30 Prepaid plan that includes 100mins, unl texting and unlimited Data with 5GB of fast speeds. Among other super cheap plans. Their refarmed HSPA+ network in PCS is very solid in parts of NYC. |

Re: KC is center of telcom love latelySprints LTE in KC is a joke. I have relatives who live there and also visit for work. All of them on Sprint with S3 and EVO LTE. They tell me all over the city there is NO LTE. Meanwhile Verizon and AT&T have them blanketed. They worst part is Sprint being headquartered in Overland Park has poor coverage. My cousin who works for Sprints jokes about poor service right near the headquarters. |
