You do realize when you when you start Windows 8 you're already at the Start Menu. That's kind of like asking your GPS for directions to a place when you're already in the parking lot. |

kudos:1 | I get a kick out of the fact that paying customers are just SOL, but there is an activation pack floating around that lets pirates not only use the OS for free, but also gives the option to restore a Windows 7 style, fully functional start menu. |

I am surprised (or not) that Microsoft loves to remove feature that was working perfectly fine for AGES.
Just like win7 had that grouping/iconness taskbar thing (not sure of easy way to describe it), you could always have it like in winxp.
If I have to get an "app" to have system working the way I want, I may as well install free linux

There is an updated version that does the same on the retail release. Not that I have tried it myself mind you. 
Start8 by stardock will do the trick as well, but it isn't free. |
