"though you'll still need a traditional cable account"
There is no "you'll" in this. You just have to know someone who is willing to share their account login. I don't have a cable subscription but my mom does so I just use her account. -- I do not, have not, and will not work for AT&T/Comcast/Verizon/Charter or similar sized company.
And espn is pushing hard from the them to add that long horn channel.
maybe dish should drop ESPN.
people claim they want their TV provider to stand up to the content providers but if Dish drops ESPN 95% of those that want Dish to take a tough stand will bail on Dish and go with another TV provider that has ESPN. And that is why TV providers do not stand up to content providers.
I've been a subscriber to AT&T DSL only, and had access to ESPN 3. I switched to time Warner Cable for the reliability, and am now expected to pony up $60 extra to watch ESPN3. I have Dish as a TV provider, so that's not happening. Reading the original post gave me hopes I'd have access, but it's just watchESPN...
Hey ESPN and Xbox, come talk to me when I DONT need a traditional cable sub. And Xbox, your whole tv offerings with all these apps is bullshit. I want to be a cord cutter and get away from dtv and Comcast. I'm willing to pay for a gold/platinum account to do alacart programming.
