Waiting, CalmlyI'm calmly waiting for my Samsung Google Nexus 10 32GB to be sent to me. Ordered on 12/4 and they haven't charged me yet. Called Google today and they said I should receive it on the 11th. Calmly waiting!
Soon I have to decide to whom I shall give my 2 year old 7" Galaxy tab for Christmas.

No more free Google Apps :(» www.wired.com/business/2 ··· le-apps/Not that I blame Google. There's a lot of money to be made there. I signed up long ago on two domains (one business, one personal) so I'm grandfathered in. But someone thinking about signing up on 12/5 for limited-user free and on 12/7 it's $6/user/month, that could be a steep bill for some small startups. Ah well, it was a good free ride until it lasted.

Re: No more free Google Apps :(Not coincidental, at the same time they are bastardizing postini.
|

Re: No more free Google Apps :(Yeah Postini went downhill I moved to FOPE. I get a bit more "junk" - if FOPE sees an opt out link it passes the emails. If a way, its nice since I don't have to go into Postini and whitelist mailing lists for my users.

Another Apple patent invalidated... for now.The USPTO strikes again, invalidating one of the most important patents that Apple has been using to sue opposition: » www.wired.com/gadgetlab/ ··· invalid/

Re: Another Apple patent invalidated... for now.I think the patent laws need to be reformed to allow for fair competition but I just do not want my new iPhone 5 or my iPad 3 and iPad mini to be taken away because of frivolous litigation by competitors.
I think that Android does infringe on Apple's patents as I have operated Android devices and they seem very similar in operation to iOS and iOS entered the arena first. Android was only introduced because people were angry that the hugely popular iPhone was only available on AT&T and Apple and AT&T at the time did not want to budge and allow the iPhone on Verizon so Verizon came out with the Droids that were very similar in operation and feel to iOS. Market pressure forced AT&T and Apple to terminate their exclusivity agreement early and they released the iPhone on Verizon and eventually Sprint. Now T-Mobile is getting it soon.
I remember the litigation between AT&T and Verizon over "their is a map for that" ad campaign. I think one Christmas, VZW portrayed an iPhone in the island of misfit toys from an old Christmas TV show.
From what I heard, AT&T was supposed to have exclusivity until 2012 but they broke it in 2010.

Re: Another Apple patent invalidated... for now.Of course Android is similar to iOS... iOS is a dumbed down version of OSX, which is based on UNIX.. Linux is what android is based on and Linux was also based on UNIX... So of course both operating systems will be similar to a degree.

of course ios and android are similar, they are GUI based smartphone OS.
Windows has many OSX like functions and OSX has many windows like functions by the nature of being a GUI.
the patent office is the biggest flaw here for even awarding patents on things that should not have been patented. slide to unlock for example is not an innovation. Hell the door on my shed where the lawn mower sits has slide to unlock, I guess Apple better get to suing Stanley and Ace Hardware.

Got threatened by another bus passengerI was on a crowded bus this past Thursday coming home from the mall and I was sitting down on a crowded bus. I had my merchandise on a seat and I myself am slightly overweight so I take up 1 and 1/8th of a seat. Not to the point of taking up two seats and I am not required to buy two seats on a plane. The seats on the newer buses are small. So the bus takes off and stops along State Street to pick up more passengers and it is standing room only. So some woman gets on and tells me to give up my seat in a threatening tone of voice so I politely refused (as I am disabled and after repeated injuries to my ankles my days of being a standee are over). I would have moved over and placed my packages in my lap but when you talk to me in that tone of voice, that is the point where I do not feel comfortable sitting next to this individual so I got up, asked the driver to call the police (he did not think it was necessary) so I just got off the bus and there was another bus behind it that was training a new driver so I got on it (thank goodness for unlimited monthly passes).
If the woman would have asked nicely, I would have probably complied.

Re: Got threatened by another bus passengerYou get more with a kind word and a gun than you get with just a kind word.
But I agree, you get sweet bugger all with a nasty tone and rotten attitude.
I try to be nice to all I encounter, but the second I get nasty from someone, they get nothing nice back that's for sure.
In your position, I might have just acted like I was unable to understand the person.

Why is Apple stock sinking like a stone?Apple is still selling iDevices like crazy, but competition is getting stronger and people suspect a post-Jobs Apple is losing its innovative mojo. Over the last 2 months their stock has dropped 25%. Here is a commentary examining the possible reasons: » apnews.myway.com//articl ··· JG0.htmlWhy do you think Apple may be getting dissed by Wall St? And will it recover or will it turn in to another Microsoft? Profitable, but no longer cutting edge?

Silicon Valley may be emptying out soon & moving elsewhereRecent tax laws(Prop 30) passed in Calif has the potential to drive out of the state all new entrepreneurs setting up businesses. The venture capitalists and angel investors are quickly souring on the state and will no longer recommend Calif as a place to start up a business. » allthingsd.com/20121204/ ··· reneurs/Where will they go instead? Plenty of states will be willing to cut deals to get new start ups in their states.

Crap Hound ScoresI am a Crap Hound that spend my Saturday cruising estate sales, business liquidations, for stuff I can sell on Ebay. I do make a fair about of "beer" money but not hundreds promised by some "buy my system and make a killing" hucksters pushes. I do specialize in home network gear, buying them putting DDWRT and reselling them.
Still I manage to redo my internet connections and a significantly cheaper piece. For example; I bought a WRT130N relatively new for $10.00 and scored a SB6120 for $15.00 at an Estate Sale. I could had sold it but I need to update my cable modem. I also picked up Office 2007 for $10.00 at liquidation sale. Once I bought a serenity device for $10.00 but I did not know what it was until I did my research and sold for $175.00.
Of course some item will not plan out like older clear modems.

I recall Y2K, and all the hype/hysteria, but 2012....Dang but I am sure looking forward to Jan 2013 so we can all just laugh at all the shit pretending to be so fricking clever. I remember Y2K and it seemed plausible that there might be some chaos. But 2012 has I think raised the bar for idiocy. With some luck, I am hoping to celebrate Dec 21 changing to Dec 22 the same way I did the day following midnight 1999. With the wife and enjoying some 'recreation' timed to reach grand finale at the precise moment the day changes over And with some luck, Netflix deletes all the 2012 inspired IQ sucking drivel from the service in 2013 too.
