No. You have to purchase Justin's Hypno-Coin (note the address, thought you could sneak some advert in on us eh Justin?) then womens will be yours to bend to whatever perverted purpose you wish.

I thought the other 11% was people complaining about X10.

the other 11% are complaining and if they aren't complaining then they aren't surfing the net and they are just downloading mp3's

Most X-10 ads are bought on CPA....

I believe that most X-10 ads are bought on a CPA (cost-per-action) basis as opposed to CPC (cost-per-click) or CPM (cost-per-thousand).

This means that the site (publisher) only gets paid if a user clicks on the ad and then actually buys a X-10 product, or signs up for a newsletter or some other action - similar to an affiliate program.

Since there is such an over-supply of ad inventory on the internet, sites accept the X-10 CPA ads to fill their unsold inventory; some revenue potential is better than none.

comments? yahoo must be doing worse than they let on if they are scrounging around for a few bucks in action by spamming (sorry) all their users with pop-unders.. cost per action is nice for x10, nice for yahoo, sucks for readers.

any site that has pop-unders I just add to my internet explorer's 'restricted sites' ... that way I rarely see those damn things because they aren't allowed to pop-up. The only drawback is if I need to somehow log on to the site, I can't do that either if its restricted in my browser...

Easy way to block it.

Just put a line

127.0.0.1 ads.x10.com

in your hosts file and it will open the
window but no ad will be displayed.

cool
Anon That one's from the duh column. Thanks for posting it though because even though it's simple and makes sense I know I didn't think of doing it

Better yet...point ads.x10.com to an anna kournikova site and instead of annoying pop unders you get anna kournikova pop unders!
Anon The BEST way to block it: Go to »www.panicware.com. They have a FREE utility (not shareware) called Pop-Up Stopper that works like a charm. Install it, and you'll never see an X-10 ad again. They do solicit small contributions, but it's not required. Besides, they're worth a few bucks.

Proxomitron - YOU Define What To Render!

After extensive reviews of various blocking applications, Proxomitron came out in top spot. I have assembled a thorough set of configuration files to jump start the application. No more pop-unders, overs, etc. Proxomitron gives you, the user, the ability to define what is rendered on your browser. No other app can do this.

You can read more here.

I was an avid user of WW until I tried Proxo.. nothing compares to Proxo.. nothing close. Proxo is light years ahead of all the other apps out there today.

Here's how they afford to do it

It's easy - MOST of the advertising sites and accounts they do business with take them on a 'trial run' - and the x10 folks 'commit' to a certain amount of $$$ - then 2 or 3 days into it they start to screw you down saying your doing way way less than other 'key sites' which they don't disclose. This game goes on for weeks and tehy keep pushing for more ads for less money. And the whole time they have NET 90 (really!) terms. By the time it comes to paying you, they then complain about your 'underperformance' (which of course was never gauranteed or committed to etc etc etc) even though you have fallen over backwards to deliver everything you can. Hence the huge amount of noise on the web.

A SCAM that everyone - not just the sites - are paying for.
Been there and ws screwed by it, shut them off, wrote it off, never never again. And I apologize to every user who came to my site.

Re: Here's how they afford to do it

Internet advertising for the most part doesn't work. The normal charge for banner advertisements is about $1000 per 100,000 banner impressions. From that you will at best get 1,000 clicks. And that is most likely a very high number. My guess is closer to 100. Of that you may get 1 sale. If its a membership on a free site you might get 50% but it has to be free for that kind of click/signup ratio. Even the pay per click programs barely work. You end up burning any profit you could have ever made on the sale in click fees.

For the webmaster who puts the banner ad on his/her site...
If you can get a company to actually pay you $1000 for 100,000 impressions I will pass out on the spot . The pay per click programs really are no good. For the most part you can't get any better than $.05 per click. You have to serve up 100 clicks just to make $5.00. That would amount to about 100,000 banner impressions. Maybe 10,000 impressions if the ad is real good. Then you better hope you get paid. Oh... then watch out for the little switch program advertisers like to run. If enough of those clicks don't convert you will be switched over to a partner program. This is where you get paid a small percentage on each sale. They will switch you usually before you hit your minimum payout level. This is a nice trick advertisers use to avoid paying you or greatly delay paying you.

Bottom line... advertising on the net from both sides is a bankrupt and dead concept. It simply doesn't work.

Just use a popup stopper

I have 0% of my bandwidth being used by popup ads.

I hate popups and they are nothing less than telemarketing calls without the ringing of the phone.

To eliminate the crap, I just use popup stopper by panicware.

No more popups.

Now, if only it were that easy and cheap to do to my home phone...

Re: Just use a popup stopper

Apologies for getting off topic a bit... but....
you know that melody that's played before the announcement that the number you have reached has been disconnected? If you play that every time you answer the phone the computers that harvest/maintain telephone numbers for the telemarketing companies will delete your number from their list.
