"unlimited" data not unlimited data

Just because there aren't caps doesn't mean there aren't limits.

Sprint is unlimited, but good luck finding the point where they throttle. I've had the service about 14 years and their network is slowest in the nation. There are a few markets with 4GB (right outside Crystal City, VA) and I saw 15-20mbit.

However, I was only visiting. Most of their network is 3g and you're lucky to see 100 kilobits each direction. 12KB/S up and down...So not like you're going to be able to find their invisible cap all to quickly.

I dont think anything has changed.

For months they have been advertising "Unlimited" data showing commercials of a hot chic "flying" around the country and every single one of those commercial have had the disclaimer that you were throttled after 2GB of data usage.

I suspect not a single thing has actually changed other than the marketing.

T-Mobile's Faux-G (HSDPA+) is a night and day difference in experience over Boost's 3G/4G. It's like the difference in mechanical and SSD storage in your computer. In some areas, it out performs Verizon's LTE.

If you mainly text and use voice, 3G/4G is irrelevant however.

Fixed

Fine and dandy... but do ANY of the carriers offer "fixed" LTE type service (whatever "G" they think they're on) with no cap, or a cap that's even close to DSL (150GB)???

Would love to get my parents set up with something that'd handle video, such as Netflix, but with 6GB Sprint cap, or even their 12GB cap, it's just not realistic.

no such thing as UNLIMITED!

Might be "unlimited" use, but it doesn't mean "unlimited" data use.
Throttling will eventually kick in.

the term "unlimited" has been a controversy with every major carrier.

They like to sucker unsuspecting new users in with the marketing concept of "unlimited data", but it backfires later.

10% off discount at most "online" etailers...

10% discount for refills at popular online etailers for refill pins means this comes down to $63, all inclusive (no under the line fees/taxes).

Not the best offer out there, still would like to see pricing on this tier be more reasonable ($50 or less), but at least we're heading in the right direction.

@comcast.net

what about the walmart $30 plan

the walmart exclusive plan has had the same 5G cap before throttling as the $70, hope they go true unlimited on that one as well

Re: no thanks

I'll stick with my $56/mo.AT&T grandfathered unlimited IPhone 5 LTE and $30/mo. iPad 4 LTE.
Even my friends who canceled their accounts regret giving up their att grandfathered unlimited now.

@comcast.net

does this affect MVNO;s as well

a few MVNO'[s advertise unlimited but let loose customer who use too much. i wonder if some new t-mobile policies will trickle down making simple mobile for example true unlimited now.

Naming may be off but the plans are cool with me

This is just T-Mobile's new definition of 'unlimited.'

For T-Mobile you get 3 choices when you hit the 'unlimit.'

1. Data is shut off.
2. You are charged overage fees.
3. Your connection gets slower.

The new plans they are pushing are based on #3. The higher plan you get, the higher the 'unlimit' before you get throttled.

They still offer plans based on #2 and I think even #1.

Re: no thanks

That's the truth too. I consistently get around 16-21mbps on my nexus 4 where I live on T-Mobile's network.

the $30 unlimited data plan is truly unlimited. I've never heard of anyone getting throttled on it.

No, there are truly unlimited data plans on T-Mobile with no throttling. My buddy has the $30/month unlimited 4g data and text, 100 min and he has had several months where he hits 15gb without any signs of it being slower than when it began.

Limit

Most people are reporting that their T-Mobile Unlimited accounts are showing 9999GB, or 10TB limit.

Re: no such thing as UNLIMITED!

No throttle on the AT&T $30/mo grandfathered unlimited iPad 3G and LTE.

There was a throttle on my 3GS after 3gig of data but I could still stream Netflix and Slingplayer so I didn't see a problem with it or I would have left long ago.
I've had the IPhone 5 since Black Friday. Been in Brazil most of December. Arrived home Dec. 30th. Streamed 2 episodes of Dr.Who and about 2 or 3 hours of Slingplayer and surfing,email,TuneIn,etc..so far 3.8gig used.

My speed test as of right now reads 43.89Mbps/18.85mbps.
Really can't complain.
Curious to see what the speeds will be after 5gigs.
