LinklistPremium join:2002-03-03 Longport, NJ kudos:5 | Must be upgrading without announcing I've had Sprint for almost 4 yrs now in my suburban area and the last few weeks is the 1st time I could get 3G data inside my house. And when I turned off the old femtocell, I could actually do a voice call inside the house as well without it. So, their network upgrades must have been done in my area. If I had an LTE phone, maybe it is available here as well. IOW, Sprint is upgrading in many unannounced areas. -- A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasury. |

 | Really? I thought being in Grand Rapids Michigan I would qualify as a smaller market but they mean small with a capital "S". Midland Michigan? Come on!
P.S. My password stopped working today. Odd. |

Re: Must be upgrading without announcing Agreed. The city I live in (~30k people) has LTE and we aren't on the list. We've had it for almost a year now. |

I was in Tampa a few weeks ago and saw Sprint LTE in quite a few places. Hasn't been announced yet. |

Re: The coming soon network does not disappoint. They are doing a major refresh of nearly every cellsite, not just adding LTE like ATT/VZW. There is long lead times from equipment vendors.
BTW, I know some people at the HQ and here is what I'm hearing...
Nearly all 38K cells sites will be upgraded to Network Vision and LTE at 1900, only a few hundred won't for some reason. About 80% of 38K will get 800Mhz LTE after iDen is shutoff this summer. The 800Mhz will significantly boost coverage. 2500 LTE will start soon after but is hard to say with all the merger complications. |

| Small cities like these probably have no more than 5 or 6 cell sites so it's probably pretty easy to upgrade them and call it a market. Bigger areas take longer because there's far more cell sites and fiber needs to be run to practically every site. If the sites are on rooftops rather than actual poles this can take a very long time.
I kind of like how Sprint is getting the easy stuff done first. |
