Dear Comcast,

Please train your phone reps about new products offerings, even if they are still in the test phase or not launched in the local market. I tried inquiring about the AnyPlay device and nobody knew anything about it. They were even unable to confirm or deny if it was launched yet. They even had the guts to give me the run around.

FCC takes power away from NIMBY's for temp cell towers

Based on a law passed in 2012, the FCC has stripped local government of powers to hold up deployment of temporary cell towers, COWs, etc. It also limits their ability to prevent modifications to EXISTING cell towers

Too bad that law didn't also take away local governments power to stop NEW cell tower placements altogether.

»www.politico.com/story/2 ··· 747.html

“Providing more certainty to industry and municipalities, and more flexibility to carriers to meet extraordinary, short-term service needs will accelerate private and public investment to strengthen our nation’s communications networks,” said FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski in a statement.

On Friday, the commission defined and clarified a technical provision in the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 regarding local review of requests to modify an existing wireless tower or base station. The provision will accelerate deployment and delivery of high-speed mobile broadband to communities across the nation, the commission said.

FCC today also launched a proceeding to expedite placement of temporary cell towers — cells on wheels (COWs) and cells on light trucks (COLTs) — that are used to expand capacity during special events.

I find your statement inronic since your are anti-big government. yet here you are advocating big governemnt telling much smaller local government what to do.

Well I am a multi-dimensional person and not locked in to all aspects of a leaning towards a favored political philosophy. Practicality is my overriding philosophy - along with "what is best for ME". Only an idiot is a 100% follower.

We had two pileups like that around Cincinnati last week and one in Columbus all about the same time. Its the ones that dont learn to slow down that ruin it for the rest.

Unlocking My iPhone

No -- this isn't about the recent DMCA shenanigans although I find that amusing.

About two weeks ago I started the unlock process with AT&T. I navigated to their on-line web site and completed the request form. Within a day or two I received an e-mail asking me to wait another 24 hours before following the unlock procedure.

OK -- thank you AT&T! I didn't even have to talk to anyone. Yeah! Now...on to that unlock procedure...

Connect your phone to iTunes and restore it. Say what? Of course I can use iTunes to do a full backup, restore the iPhone and then recover with the backup. Which I did and my phone is now unlocked but who the heck thought of this as an unlock procedure? What a PITA!

IMO -- this is a completely ridiculous process. Does anyone know WHY I had to go through this ridiculous, lengthy process just to enable the phone to work with another network's SIM card? Is this unique to the iPhone?

In closing, although I like my iPhone and to a far lesser extent, Apple, iTunes leaves a lot to be desired. Despite telling me I was doing a full backup, it lost all of my music. No harm done, all of my music is ripped from CDs I own so I can quickly restore it but Apple -- you don't know what the definition of FULL BACKUP means. What a load of bull.

Re: Unlocking My iPhone

It doesn't help now, but from what I hear, you don't actually have to do a full restore to unlock it, even though the instructions say that.

I'd have to do more research to provide better instructions, but this is what I've picked up from skimming macforums or whatever it's called.

Good luck with that! Your better off checking here to get the info you need. Much better information on this site from all of the users than you will get from a CSR unless you go to the Comcast Direct site here.

I’d like to see the All Star games in all sports done away with. The MLB All Star Game is the only one that has any real meaning anyway. Usually the scores are sky high as nobody plays defense in any All Star game, regardless of the sport. Keep the skills portion of the various all star events, and in lieu of a game, just have an award ceremony or something to give recognition where it is due.

Has anyone noticed that Google SafeSearch is now mandatory?

Starting a couple months ago, Google took away the ability to turn off SafeSearch for its .com domains, although the sites in other countries still had that ability. I started a thread on Google Groups and all Google would say was that they weren't censoring anything, people just had to be more specific in their queries. That was demonstrated to be false.

Now Google has made this change to all their sites world-wide.

Instead of the old three options of "Off", "Moderate" and "Strict", you now have "Show most relevant results" and "Filter explicit results". The latter is equivalent to strict filtering and the former is the equivalent of moderate filtering.

There is now no way to get unfiltered search results using Google!

Some people will say that it doesn't matter because there are other ways to find porn. That ignores the bigger picture. How do you know what's being filtered? Can you guarantee that only porn is being filtered? No, you can't. How do you trust filtered search results if you can't turn the filters off for comparison?

Who appointed Google the net's nanny?

Re: FCC takes power away from NIMBY's for temp cell towers

I find that he is primarily an advocate for big business; if a rule empowers big business then he is all for it. If a rule restricts big business then we need to get rid of that law and de-fund the agency passing it... smaller government.

When most people use the term 'smaller government' what they really mean is 'more powerful business' or a 'more free market'.

Re: Highway 401 Accident Near Toronto

I lived most of my life in Illinois before I entered the Air Force and got stationed at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH,Whiteman AFB in Missouri and K.I. Sawyer AFB near Marquette, MI., among others. All of these places had snow, and K.I. Sawyer averaged over 200 inches a year, and most people could drive decently in it, especially in MI. From MI, I moved to Austin, TX and it is terrifying if there is any snow at all. Most here have no idea how to drive on it, so it is best to stay at home until it melts.

However, my job required me to be at work regardless of the weather, so I got to see some interesting situations.

Anonymous does another stupid useless attack

»www.foxnews.com/tech/201 ··· website/

The hacker-activist group Anonymous says it hijacked the website of the U.S. Sentencing Commission to avenge the death of Aaron Swartz, an Internet activist who committed suicide.

Wow, I bet all 6 people who go to the US Sentencing Commission web site are bummed out.
