The hacker-activist group Anonymous says it hijacked the website of the U.S. Sentencing Commission to avenge the death of Aaron Swartz, an Internet activist who committed suicide.

Wow, I bet all 6 people who go to the US Sentencing Commission web site are bummed out.

The web site is up and operating:

Re: FCC takes power away from NIMBY's for temp cell towers

I think local governments should be stripped of their authority over cell site placement completely and jurisdiction over cell tower placement and design should be with the state Departments of Public Utilities to have a central authority at the state level as opposed to have fight every city council, zoning boards, board of selectman, etc. Giving local cities and towns too much control creates too much red tape for economic development. The city I live in is so corrupt that the less power they have, the better.

Re: Super Bowl Sunday...

Think of the revenue it would generate (in addition to the ads) if it was on Pay Per View. I would like to see the big sports leagues go to Pay Per View distribution of games as I am not a big fan of sports (other than hoping to see the Chicago Cubs win the World Series) and I think sports programming is one of the reasons cable rates are through the roof (ESPN is an expensive channel and I wish the cable/satellite providers would make it a premium channel).

Best Buy should have a return on warranty issues only policy on TVs this time of year as people buy that 60 inch TV, unbox it and hook it up, watch the Super Bowl, and then return it the following Monday.

Jesus Friggen Christ, give it up with your anti sports nonsense already! And incase you haven’t noticed 1) The Super Bowl is the most watched event in the country 2) It rotates between the over the air networks that have NFL contracts, NBC, CBS and FOX. Not sure why ESPN is even relevant here.

And please post a link or two about people in mass droves buying new TVs the day before the Super Bowl and returning it the day after. While I wouldn’t doubt it happens, it certainly is not some pandemic.

CBS should re release The Amos & Andy TV show from the 1950s

One of my favorite television shows of all time is Amos & Andy. I remember watching it when I was eight years old on WPIX channel 11 in New York. A year or so later, I started to see the show on WCBS channel 2 during the week, when I didn't have school or was on vacation. Then without warning, the show was taken off the air, it seemed never to be heard from again. This was the first all black comedy show to be seen on television. It had high ratings when shown for the first time from June 1951 to June 1953. They made 78 episodes. What happened, CBS started to get pressure from the N.A.A.C.P. during production to take them off the air because they said they were stereotyping black people and making them look in a bad way. They were no different than the Marx Brothers, Abbott & Costello or the Three Stooges except they were black. In 1966 CBS withdrew the Amos & Andy from syndication from the entire country. The show centers around the antics of George "Kingfish" Stevens, head of the Mystic knights of the Sea Large Hall played by Tim Moore. His wife Sapphire played by Ernestine Wade. Andy Brown played by Spencer Williams. Algonquin J Calhoun the Lawyer played by Johnny Lee. Amos Jones the cab driver played by Alvin Childress and Lightnin' the Janitor to name a few. In many of the episodes Kingfish is trying cheat Andy out of something usually money. In other episodes the Kingfish is trying to hide a bad deal he made from his wife. You can now see all but six episodes of Amos & Andy on the internet. Today Amos & Andy is harmless fun, compared to what's out there and should again be seen on TV.

Just plain effin tired of it all...

I say nationalize all carriers. It's the people's money that keeps the infrastructure growing and running. The corporations just horde all the money that's collected to pay off lobbyists or other government agencies to dictate stupid policies.

Eliminate data caps and ridiculously overpriced internet connections. Instead of cheering how much worthless paper you collected in a quarter, how about celebrating and rewarding people on how many peoples lives you improved.

The monetary system we have today is worthless paper, backed by nothing. I'm tired of hearing all the whining about why we can't do this or why we can't do that because it's not cost effective. BS!!! The same BS was used 100 years ago to destroy Nikola Tesla and his creative spirit. He had a way to deliver electricity free to the people, and the bankers said, absolutely not.

Call this a rant.. I really don't care, but I'm effin tired of this BS economic system that is controlled by bankers and corporations. Communism doesn't work, and neither does Vulture Capitalism.

There's millions out of work and losing their homes and it's NOT their fault. Unemployment is realistically at around 40% and not the myth of 7.8%. Once you run out of benefits, you are no longer counted as unemployed.. That's a documented fact.

Perhaps we need a extinction level event to spur radical change. It's disturbing to be living in a era of time when we have all kind of technology advancements, but most are shelved or bought up and dismantled because there's no money to be made from them. It doesn't mater if it would revolutionize the world. It's all about the almighty effin buck.. Which is effin paper!!!!

Imagine that.. the lack of us advancing to greater and better times is the lack of effin worthless paper, backed by nothing.

Funeral Procession gets burgers on way to graveside

An unusual last request had a Burger King supply burgers for the deceased and his mourners on the way to the burial.

Karl? It's time.

Without a doubt, please give the Javascript speedtest tool a proper burial (no need to be an "enabler" of people shoving Oracle on their machines for no good reason)

A slightly tougher decision would be to get 3 months ahead of the rest of the world by killing the FLASH speed test -- simultaneously -- even before you have an HTML5 replacement.

DSLReports.com and BroadbandReports have always been ahead of the curve on taking the industry where we know it has to go.

Thank you, Mr. Bode.

When most people use the term 'smaller government' what they really mean is 'more powerful business' or a 'more free market'.

I definitely agree with that statement.

Thank you, Mr. Bode.

And where are these HTML5 speed tests to replace Flash speed tests?
Only two I found that is even moderately usable is »speedof.me and »www.bandwidthplace.com/

At least these approach the actual link speed. Others are so slow they barely get to 1/10 of the link speed. Unfortunately HTML5 is so tied up with how each browser implements it, results vary greatly from one browser brand to another.

An example of another HTML5 speed test that is very slow:
»html5speedtest.me/
»html5speedtest.me/about/

Re: Dear Comcast,

I think you are going to find in the coming years that as CSR pay goes lower and lower, benefits taken away, filled with part-timers... the Reps' intelligence, motivation and training is also going to get worse. Eventually 'Customer Service' will consist of only the Company's web interface as the position of CSR is eliminated completely 'in order to remain competitive in today's business environment'.
