Comments on news posted 2013-02-14 16:37:30: Having already made the printing and distribution of porn illegal, Iceland now appears ready to take on the impossible: filter porn from the Internet. ..
I'd be curious what kind of support this has. Did they just elect a couple of crazy loons or is this the kind of thing a majority of the population would support? I didn't think iceland was like a muslim country with this kind of stuff but maybe i was wrong... Of course, any tech savy person can probably get around something like this (vpn anyone?), but its still pretty ridiculous.
Most women dislike porn taking away attention from them, and they are the largest voting block. Most men don't want to get on the wrong side of women. See, Prohibition.
Any measure promising to reduce "violence" also appeals to the collectivists. They have given in to helplessness and welcome government restrictions to protect them from freedom.
porn - the whole reason behind having a highspeed connection
I remember so many stats from back in the heyday of porn being a large percentage of overall bandwidth and the driving force behind better and better VOD streaming options... porn forces innovation , so banning porn will cause us to regress back to stone tools i would think
Guess they dont bother with little things like personal freedoms in Iceland. Maybe they will toss as much money down that Austrailia did. Then we can have two countries to point and laugh at while trying to filter the internet.
Not too surprising from a country that requires you to choose from an approved list of names when you name your baby. »en.island.is/family/havi ··· e_giving
Icelanders aren't prudish (similar to the Scandinavian countries, if they are covered, it's because they are cold, not shy), just very socially "progressive".
OH, you mean act all normal and what not while out and about, and when you get home the barn animals come to play? Sorry, the term progressive has been tarnished with the whole "control" for our protection.. Even if they have to detain us indefinitely just to accomplish it...
I am against porn and I find porn offensive. Enough said...
I personally think there should be a requirement that porn sites have coding to trip filtering software installed on computers and networks. Current filtering software only blocks porn sites registered with the filtering software vendor but if they required porn sites to have coding inserted by the the porn site host, then the software would be automatic and not need the database to block such sites. If I had kids, I would like to filter their Internet.
Also, with the filtering software, wholesome websites have been blocked and the coding of porn sites by hosts would eliminate that problem.
Except that not all sites will follow the rules. The big, well-known sites will, but not the small sites or sites from other countries. It is impossible to block all porn. I can guarantee that I will be able to pull up a porn site or proxy site at any place that uses a "blacklist" filter.
There is a woman who shops at the local supermarket, They had to cover up the magazines in one checkout because she complained her kids might see them. Well she home schools.
I can only imagine that when those kids hit college they will either be in complete shock at the real world or their dorm room walls will be covered in centerfolds from Hustler as they try and catch up.
I've seen that at K-mart. It seems if a women is baring more then half her breasts [usually the cosmopolitan magazine] then it gets one of those hiders.
Winner of greatest level of futility award goes to....
I admit it, I'd rather my life had never had porn in it.
But I also wish I didn't eat as much chocolate too.
And I dislike my level of swearing as well.
The thing is, the reason I think most have a problem with porn is the real problem, not the porn itself.
Let's examine what porn really is. It's the visual depiction of sex.
It's just sex until you add religion.
I'd rather we banned religion. And made it so we didn't need porn. Because frankly, I'd rather be able to say gee I'd really like to get off right now, so do I go get a case of beer, or do I visit my favourite 'working girl' and let her give me a great blow job?
I'm fairly sure, if sex was something you could purchase with the same level of interest as a case of beer, sex would not cost as much, have no social stigma, and we wouldn't have porn.
And life would be so much better without religion.
Re: Winner of greatest level of futility award goes to....
Religion is a human reaction to answer the un-answerable. This goes back to pre-history times-say 7-10 thousand years ago. Humans back then didn't have the understanding of the ways of nature, hence the creation of "Gods" controlling their enviornment. "Who Mornes for Anodis" is THE classic Star Trek OG TV show that explains this rather well. You want to know who God is? Take a GOOD look in the mirror in the morning....and you'll have your answer.
That and religion tends to be fear focused, nothing like playing on people's fears of the unknown, and fear based to force obedience, nothing like threats of something really bad to make people behave.
I think the problem with sex, is it feels too good for one thing, but, the simple act of sex, in addition to being a lot of fun generally results in babies if done effectively, which when you look at it correctly is the creation of life, which is normally reserved for the gods, and thus, being able to do so, create life that is, tends to pull the curtain away from the wizard and expose him as a fraud.
Of course they need to have all sorts of dogma related to sex. Otherwise, people would tend to think they are too godlike having too much capacity to do anything god can do.
I didn't need god to be born, and I was not in need of god to have my son either. I don't need god to grow and apple. Nor do I require god to modify an animal.
And I merely need a brain that is willing to think long enough to solve problems in the now, that can be solved in the later. Some problems just take longer to solve than others. Just like some puzzles are easier than other.
Everyone knows the MPAA and the RIAA have succeeded in stopping the flow of illegal music and movie file transfers. Iceland could hire them as consultants.
Sounds like The Church of Christ. I went to a high school that was Church of Christ (I'm not CoC) and this is one of many things they tried to brain wash the non CoC members who were not already brainwashed with.
