Seattle, WA | Wait.... Didn't someone say that Apple was releasing a variant of the AT&T model specifically for T-Mobile and that the current ones couldn't be "updated" via software to work with T-Mobile?

Columbia, PA | The current GSM model iPhone 5 (sold by AT&T and by Apple as the unlocked model) can work on AT&T and T-Mobile's LTE networks. While the phone can work on AT&T's HSPA+ network, it cannot work on T-Mobile's (which uses AWS for both HSPA+ and LTE, AT&T only uses AWS for LTE along with 700b).
Because of this, the current GSM iPhone 5 (model A1428) has been running just fine on T-Mobile's EDGE network, and on HSPA+ where T-Mobile has reallocated 1900MHz spectrum to serve HSPA+. Otherwise, the current phone cannot connect to T-Mobile's HSPA+ running on AWS. The update coming tomorrow is a carrier profile update which controls the phone's APN, LTE connectivity, Visual Voicemail, etc.
Starting on the 12th, the model A1428 iPhone 5 will be able to work on AWS for both HSPA+ and LTE. This is not a change which can be completed through a software update to existing devices. |

| I'm very interested in HD voice I know t-mobile already has very good audio quality, but I hope HD voice becomes standard on every phone.
The official iPhone5 on T-mobile will support HD voice. |

Re: Wait.... This is what I thought too, but I've seen multiple places that it still won't support AWS HSPA+, but then what is the update doing? People are claiming it enables Band IV LTE, which is BS, as that was enabled on day 1 for AT&T and Canadian carriers. |

| I'm super excited about this Mainly because I hate that with many updates I have to go in and manually do my MMS settings again and it takes awhile for them to get to working again. |

Is it accurate to say that this will have no effect on unlocked GSM iPhones brought over from AT&T such as the 3GS, 4, and 4S?
Where in the phone do I check to see if the upgrade has been pushed? Something in Field Test? Or elsewhere? Thanks.

That is incorrect. The carrier profile will still configure all of the T-Mobile specific network settings for iPhones using a T-Mobile SIM. This includes MMS, VVM, APN, etc. |

No, it's not going to enable the use of AWS bands for HSPA+. This is not a "firmware update" as many places are incorrectly reporting.
This is simply an official carrier profile (IPCC) for T-Mobile US. It will configure T-Mobile's APN, MMS, VVM, etc. settings. |

| Yeah, I found out on MR that all it's doing is carrier settings, MMS, VVM, etc. People keep mentioning LTE, because apparently T-Mobile didn't have carrier settings to make LTE work with T-Mobile before, even though the unlocked phones previously supported Band IV LTE on AT&T and Canadian carriers. |
