Incumbent Telco CenturyLink protests Google Fiber? NO WAY

Wow, why would CenturyLink be upset about Google Fiber moving into their footprint? After all, they provide excellent service, value, customer support and have nothing to fear from increased competition! Right? Riiiiight.

Reap it, CenturyLink. REAP IT.

SCTE finds method to FORCE you to watch commercials

Oh yes, what a great leap forward in technology.

Un-Skippable, un-fastforwardable ads in the middle of VOD streams.

I'm betting they are super pumped by this.

"Focus on profits." = Making you pay even more for les

Yes, we need to focus on profitability. We need to make existing customers spend more.

In competitive markets, that means providing added value and more services and options that people want and feel are valuable.

In the USA Telecommunications market, that translates to giving people less for their current $$$, or forcing them to spend more to get the services and usage they should be getting in the first place.

Sounds good to me actually. If I get interrupted during a show i cant go back to where I left off since you can't FF. It is a huge pain in the ass as it is.

CenturyLink is scared because they want to charge my company $1000/mo for a 20 meg line. Since they are the only company in the area we are forced to take their offer...

Oh, so you have a provider that prevents FF or pausing already in order to force you to watch the ads. Great.

The VOD I watch allows FF and resuming from where you stopped.

Can you FF on the networks (NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox)? This has never worked for me. The cable channels on demand I can usually FF. The option is dictated by the networks themselves.

I bet they're also still trying to figure out why their revenue keeps falling despite their enhanced revenue collection efforts.

I could tell 'em, but I think I'm gonna wait to see if they figure it out for themselves.
