Comments on news posted 2013-06-28 08:02:29: FreedomPop says the $99 sleeve they planned to offer that turns the iPod Touch into a WiMax-enabled phone continues to see delays at the FCC. In the meantime, they're offering users who pre-ordered the device a few olive branches. ..

iPhone Case, Not iPod Case

The case that has been delayed due to FCC approval is for iPhone 4, not iPod touch.

2 GB per month?

is the free 2 GB every month or just a one time bonus?

iPod Touch has a cellular radio

Your article is confusing.
You say it's for the iPod Touch but in the same breath you say it lays the Wimax antenna directly on the iPhone's cellular antenna. The iPod does not have a cellular antenna so why would it matter where the sleeve's antenna is?
I would think a sleeve for the iPhone would be a different form factor and not affect the iPod model.

It has wifi and so a wifi antenna as well, though.

Actually that makes more sense.
WiMax and WiFi are very close in frequency.
Placing the WiMax antenna close the the WiFi antenna would potentially degrade WiMax AND WiFi performance.

$99 Into the Trash

WiMax is a dead technology so why would anyone really want to spring for one of these things? Sprint and Clearwire are moving to LTE and will shutdown WiMAX service to recover those frequencies. Plus, many areas are not even covered by WiMAX and never will be.

Re: $99 Into the Trash

You won't purchase one if you are not in a WiMax covered area.
Also WiMax will be around at least 3 years.
I've pissed away $99 for a lot of devices that have had life spans of less than 3 years.

well 2GB of internet for free after paying 99 bucks is a steal. Also 3 years for a device is nothing out of the norm now. Look most people upgrade phones and MP3 players yearly or every 2 years. So 3 year deal is not that bad for any device.

"Moving to LTE" doesn't do anything for me today.
