said by dvd536:5 channels i actually watch. nice try cox. how about putting channels people actually watch. *bomb* There is a good mix of channels there, including sports(both ESPNs), TNT, TBS, all the OTA(CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS), several movie channels, SciFy, news channels, kid shows, etc. So what channels do you watch that aren't on the list? They must be channels that nobody usually watches. |

Funny how the guy who doesn't watch any of the popular channels didn't volunteer what he actually watches. |

How are they allowed to do this? Are there not agreements in place with content houses preventing traditional distributors from becoming a-la-carte internet distributors? |

Oh by the way it's $35 a month. Feel free to pay $80 a month or more to get those other channels you are missing so bad. |

Now that's a better dealI could actually go for this. If someone offered this deal in my area, I'd be all over it. Hell, stream this on the Roku, and I'd subscribe today. |

I like thisA channel or two that I'd want (BBC America, NBC Sports) aren't there, but a cable operator doing OTT...including HD...is a step in the right direction. The price is actually reasonable, both for the box and for the service. Hopefully Cox goes nationwide with this (just to tick off the likes of TWC and Comcast). Or maybe the threat of going nationwide with this will be enough to get them a seat at the CableWiFi table, and that's all that they want. |

Re: Here are the channels being streamedThe only problem I see is that if you are not a COX customer all the TV you watch would count against your usage cap. Having a 250 GB cap (Mediacom) I bet I could burn through that quickly. |

Limited boxNeat idea, but the box is seriously limited - » www.engadget.com/2013/05 ··· -tv-stb/No component out, which would probably make media center connectivity difficult / impossible. |

Re: RipoffI'd have to agree - the selection isn't bad, especially for the price range. Kind of like a standard package, in HD, at a much better rate than standard cable card based boxes would provide. If the picture quality is on par with standard broadcast, it'll probably be a decent success. |

Not avail to Comcast, TWC, etc. |

Re: Limited boxHow many new products include component out anymore? The only one I can think of is the Tivo Mini. I know that BD/DVD players don't have them anymore. |

When will the videophiles chime in?Waiting for the videophiles to complain about the bitrate of a streaming service, because we all know videophiles like a bargain. |

Re: Here are the channels being streamedsaid by FFH5:From what I read on Cox website, this product won't be available except over Cox broadband connections. Not avail to Comcast, TWC, etc. My prediction: The first cable operator to break out of their own territory and offer the service nationally, at a disruptive price, will dominate. And if they're smart about it, they'll have enough of a lead that even when their competitors follow suit, it will be too late. If you think I'm wrong, look how Netflix dominates. Amazon is trying, but Netflix already had the momentum when the me-too services finally entered the market.... ... much the same way Amazon.com dominated the online book-sellers market. By the time Books-a-Million, B.Dalton, and WaldenBooks finally realized there was something to this "internet" thing, it was too late. Now where are they? Bankruptcy, or nearing it. |

Re: How are they allowed to do this?I looks like they have covered almost all the majors they are forced to offer in the bundle contracts. But I suspect this required a new contract. Mostly because the price is too low. If they can offer this selection over the Net for $35.00, why aren't they doing it over the cable?
A new deal was cut here. One that smells kind of fishy. If it's too good to be true, you know there's something hidden in the fine print.
EDIT: Just looked at the web site. $35.00 price is temporary, only during beta testing. So obviously, it will jump. |
