...When I called to ask about this after reading the original story, I was told that current Boost users would keep the same speed and pricing as long as they didn't make any changes to the internet part of their account. |

Upgrade NowResidential Boost or Boost Plus legacy customers (paying $9.95 to $14.95 per month) will receive the Ultra 101 service tier. There is no additional cost to these customers. Residential non-legacy Boost and Boost Plus customers will receive the Ultra 50 tier of service In that case everyone should upgrade before the 15th and get grandfathered in at current pricing and receive the faster speeds. |

$300Why was there ever a $300 install fee? Seems very steep to setup a DOCSIS modem. |

Because CV could only afford to have a few people on a node running at 101/15, since they were only bonding three or maybe four downstreams at the time the tier launched. It was to discourage people from signing up...or to get them to help pay for a node split...more than anything else.
Now, with multiple upstreams and 8x4 modems, it's less of an issue.
Though I'm kind of surprised that CV is only bonding two upstreams to get those speeds. Comcast is doing two 64QAM upstreams plus a 16QAM one in Denver-area markets and they only sell 20 Mbp sup. |

Two 64 QAMOnly two 64 QAM (3.2 or 6.4 MHz wide) channels for 25 and 35 Mbps upstream?
If true then DOCSIS3.0 is looking better and better can't wait for DOCSIS3.1 |

FIOS needs an upgrade nowCable companies are now starting to have 50Mbps as their mainstream speed tier. Back when FIOS quantum just came out, it looked great, not so much anymore. Verizon needs to show us why FTTH is superior. |

I wish I could switch...A TWC offers two plans lower than the lowest Optimum. One plan at $45 for same down but slower upstream. Two middle tiers for $10 or $20 more and still slower upstream than Optimus lowest plan. And finally their highest tier which equals in downstream only with no option for a 100Mbps speed.
I guess TWC either doesn't read what's said about them or they don't care. One damn good reason I hope TWC doesn't buy Optimum.
Will someone please offer true competition???? |

Re: $300Yep. And they were running things so tight that in many cases people weren't seeing 30 Mbps speeds on the download side. |

Finally, an ISP that gives decent UPLOADWith those uploads, you can finally stream HD 1080p up at good framerates.
Many ISP's are giving decent download speeds but squeezing upload so that the connection remains less useful. |

Re: Yay Upload Speed IncreaseSmall fluff.. ? One speed test does not make a trend, but it looks like 25 upstream will only have ~ 2 or 3 megabits fluff. Verizon's is currently 10-15.
Maybe Verizon could bump the entry level tier and since the fluff on other tiers still beats (upstream) or matches(downstream) Ultra tiers. |

Too bad....that they ditched Optimum West to Charter. Looks like we'll be stuck with 15/2 (Speedboost 30/5) forever without hopes of faster upstream.
*sigh* Well, it's better than CenturyLink any day. |

said by tmc8080:pricing for residential 101 is 54.90 + 55 = $110 (subtract upto $20 if part of a 2x or 3x bundle) that is until new pricing is revealed. Well, I just got my first bill. It was indeed $89.99. That's for Ultra business with one fixed IP. No bundles. I upgraded from boost+ residential at $69.99 to Ultra business under some promotion they were running which zeroed out the $300.00 install fee. It was a bargain upgrade for $20.00 more. In a year, I will be paying $114.00. That's for the ultra business with one fixed IP. The best part of this is their business tech support is 24/7 and you get through to a human right away. It's certainly worth the extra $4.00. |
