Not in Chicago.Should have been Sept 13 but still no. They say it's still in Beta. Hmmmm. |

Aereo has Not Launched in Chicago...Evidently, Aereo has run into some technical issues in Chicago. They were supposed to go live on September 13...but did not. Here is a message posted to Redditt from an Aereo spokesman:
"Hi Everyone: We're still in our beta testing phase in Chicago. We're so sorry for the delay, but as soon as we're out of beta, we'll start to send email invites to our pre-registered folks. We're trying to get it right and just ask for a little more patience as we finish up our beta testing. We don't have a forecast date yet, but as soon as we do, we'll announce it. Thanks so much for your patience! We know it's not an ideal answer, but we're working on it!"
Their website still says going live in Chicago on September 13...you would think they would have changed the wording by now! |

What makes Chicago different? Maybe they needed to hire union technicians? |

What is the point of it?It can only be used in the designated market area anyways. Why pay $8 per month when I can pick it up free or on cable/satellite? If I want it on my mobile device, all I need is a one time investment in a Slingbox and maybe a digital tuner. |

Yep you definitely don't want Aero. I'll give it 30 days and decide. The first 30 days are gratis. I like the fact I'm sticking it to the arrogant networks and their obscene carriage fees. |

Re: What is the point of it?Where I live...I would need a large outdoor antenna on a tower to get good reception of the Chicago stations...and that is why I want to give it a try... |

Out of Area UseDo they have the ability to detect when someone signs up in one city, just for the purpose of sharing that account with someone in another city?
example, can I sign up and let my dad watch NFL games out of area? |

From what I have read, yes they can detect it and it will not work Example: The Houston service will not work in Dallas. |

Re: What is the point of it?Aereo makes no sense at all. I am in a suburb of houston and I use an antenna to get all the OTA channels for free. Why pay them? |

Re: Out of Area UseI have not used their service, but from their faq and how they say it works they based your account on your credit cards billing zip code. You should be able to be use it anywhere in the world. I have a feeling their only customers are those using while traveling. |
|
|
Nope...you CANNOT view the service when out-of-area. I did the trial to the NY service and when I try to view it when I'm in Boston, it says I can't. |

Aereo and FilmomI use Filmon instead of Aereo because Filmon is free. Also Filmon does not interrupt your service every half hour making you close and reopen your browser as does Aereo. Here is an instance of a free service being better than one that charges. |

Re: What is the point of it?I have tried several antennas and i am yet to get good reception. Living in high density areas like Upper Kirby/Midtown/Uptown/Downtown/Galleria is almost impossible to get over the air channels. |

And what about those that can't get the signals, what are they to do?
Or what if someone doesn't want to pay for or even just have a big antenna on their house?
How much is your total cost (materials + possible labor) to get your tv atenna mounted and working? Divide that out by 8 to see how many months it would take to break even vs using Aero
It makes sense if you can think past your own personal situation |

I don't need HD or PVR so mine is free. |

Also I got screwed at my apt. My side of the building is facing away from the antennas and I am on the first floor, so my reception is crap. I have no line of sight to the houston area antennas. I bought this antenna and all my reception problems went away. » www.amazon.com/gp/produc ··· 07RH5GZIIts all about what antenna you have. |

AereoTo those saying you can get it via OTA antenna, take heed that the coverage area is rather large and extends into some rural parts towards the east tex corridor. Very attractive for us.
The quality doesn't seem to be super amazing or anything, as I can run it on high with 3mb DSL with no problems. I guess if the quality was higher I would be buffering, like with some 1080p streams on twitch.tv.
Channel selection is also mostly broadcast, spanish, and, religion, so I'm mostly just watching the big 4. |

Re: What is the point of it?I rather pay $10 that buy an antenna that will not be allowed in my apts... All the buildings around me block the signal, this antenna might help, but there is nowhere for me to install this monstrous antenna... |

On your apt patio or balcony. Or you just put it in a window. It is not that big of an antenna.
You mean $10 a month, not $10. |

nearly dead?Failing to update website for a week can only mean they're hugely screwed up, mismanaged, misguided, misarchitected... nearly dead? Its like a store with the "CLOSED/OPEN" sign turned the wrong way, that easy to fix, but they cant get to it because... they're all under the refrigerator in the back. |

Technical issue possibilitiesI wouldn't mind if the delay was due to contract negotiations for rights to display the Tribune Company's CLTV station. I'd like to see an to end Comcast's exclusivity. CLTV's full real-time storm coverage, sports programming, and public service shows would be good value-added content for increasing Chicago area sales.
Or, perhaps their technical issue is they can't tell the difference between Lake county Indiana and Lake county Illinois. Their Chicago coverage area page list all the Illinois Lake county cities in Indiana! |
