 | Not bad I use to have Jabcast and the public wifi is the only thing I really miss. RVA is covered with them while Verizon is no show for hotspots. |
|
 | Not All Cable Co's I note that Cro-Magnon Communications (AKA Charter) is conspicuously absent. |

 | I guess it depends on who is providing the wifi. the access points on cablevisions network are 15/5 |

For one thing it doesn't impact your data plan. For another, like in my case, I can use my WiFi-Only iPad around town as if it had a data plan.

TWC doesn't have a ton of WiFi in Austin, but the places they do have it the service is at least usable. Sometimes even comparable to 4G on a slow day. And in some cases they have WiFi where cell reception practically doesn't exist. For example, the office building I'm sitting in right now. |

Can't speak for WI, but the TWC/CableWiFi Hotspots here in LA serve up 15/1, a 10-fold improvement over the status-quo "free" hotspots found at McDonalds, Starbucks, etc.
While your current experience may not be as bountiful, the nationwide trend is definitely looking up. |

n2jtx join:2001-01-13 Glen Head, NY | Use It All The Time Being in Cablevision territory, I have been using it extensively for years. Sprint 3G service around me is not even worth turning on the "cellular data" option. However, Cablevision has rolled out so many of these hotspots since 2008 it is almost impossible to not find one. I even found one next to a nature preserve on a small back road. My barber has one in his store and my church got one installed as well because we rent space to the public so there are plenty of customers for it. -- I support the right to keep and arm bears. |

| CableWiFi CableWiFi also supports other customers as well. Those customers must be part of Net Near U though and must be able to roam outbound to that network. NNU is a major backend provider for CableWifi and was even a partner back when TWC was doing this in many areas of Texas under the RR brand. |

Re: and...who cares? no one "locked down tight for speed"?!?! Not everywhere... I get 8M/2M from Comcast's pole mounted boxes.
Just don't try to call Comcast to tell them that one of them is broken. Most Comcast tech support folks won;t admit they exist. |
