Re: AT&T and friends can't be trusted

Could a co-op fiber company be legal? One that is in no way connected to a town or county government. In some areas we have op-op power companies. They are run like a private company. I wonder if a co-op power company could build a fiber system.

That's the problem the fiber is a natural monopoly.
I think a company could build a dark fiber system and let any content provider lease the single fiber to each house to provide content. The fiber company does not provide anything but a fiber with connectors on each end. The content providers provide all the electronics and content connected to the fiber.

try, try again?

Yeah, because the last few so-called "REFORMS" did much to improve broadband in the major black holes & sink holes outside the Northeast and put major telecom companies nose to the grindstone on not just deployment but keeps MERGER promises made as conditions of getting bigger profits from expanded market territories. If the dysfunction began to creep into the northeast.. it's completely dead elsewhere..

Scrapping most "FRANCHISE" give-aways would go a long way to restoring faith in customers actually subscribing to cable-tv. In the next few years you could be paying $5+ in franchise fees based upon a % of your bill.

Part of the reason small ISPs are drying up is lack of equitable last mile access. I would love to see an environment in which the last mile is managed separately where customer gets a real choice as to who they want to light up their Internet/TV service.

Would be a nice plan except AT & T made sure to grease enough palms to make sure no one can enter the market. At the same time they are dying to kill off their wireline business. The only chance you have is to go wireless and then you need the approval of the FCC which of course is owned by big telco.

We had a local company that wanted to lay fiber. Blocked by AT & T.

Sure, intelligent regulation would be great. But with the background of the current FCC head, lobbyists and congress, what are the odds? And even if intelligent regulations were enacted, please consider "Regulatory Capture".

Ultimately, no regulation is better.

Read this, those who hanker for the good old days. Try this today, and let me know if regulation is helping or hindering.

Comcast owns MSNBC which bases Republicans. Your comment doesn't make sense.

Ted Turner, Democrat owned stakes in Time Warner
Mike Warner, Democrat is related to the guys that started Warner-Amex.
Henry Waxman, Democrat banned advertising by liquor companies.
Leticia Van De Putte, and Ron Wilson, Democrats added the
Texas Universal Service Fund surcharge on your phone bills.
RINO Ted Stephens (who killed himself) wanted to tax all VOIP services with the Federal Universal Service Fund surcharge.

Let's see 1 RINO, and the rest RATS.
Watch the Communicators Monday Night on C-SPAN2. Watch C-SPAN, and C-SPAN 2 to know more! They also have an archive to find out how Congress officials vote.

Re: AT&T and friends can't be trusted

And that starts with the City Council and Mayor. It's called R.O.W. Right of Way. AT&T objected to your local officials and because YOU didn't oppose to the Mayor and Council and speak in front of City Hall on this item, they took the side of the majority. Remember, Local Government has a say in the infrastructure of the city, from electricity, wireline, wireless towers, and cable lines. The Federal Government cannot force a city to have Google, or Time Warner.

You are also not prohbitied unless you live in an apartment and share a common area (where the satelitte would have to be placed) from owning a dish.

The FCC did order municipalities not to make zoning laws to hinder the installation of satelite dishes, but in areas such as Condo's Apt's, and HOA's generally those have more authority over the placement of dishes.

AT&T astroturfing and shilling is always so thorough on here. No way to have an intelligent discussion about them.
