Tired of Netflix buffering?Maybe he's tired of Netflix buffering... "The chairman of the FCC struggles with his Netflix stream too. In a conversation with me at the State of the Net conference in Washington DC, Chairman Tom Wheeler expressed the same frustrations with his Netflix streams that consumers have in forums around the internet. And because hes the chairman of the agency in charge of ensuring that the companies providing broadband remain competitive and consumer-friendly, hes in a position to do something about it." » gigaom.com/2014/01/28/th ··· revails/ |

"act" is what he will do for sureWheeler and the FCC aren't going to do anything meaningful to prevent the incumbents from doing whatever they want. I am positive Wheeler will put on an act to lead people to believe something will be done; so yeah, he'll "act".
there is one solution and one solution only to this and that is to classify internet service as title II. |
|

Why didn't they dump 1,000,000 signatures at the Captiol? If they truly got that many.
Congress could pass a far more meaningful fix to this "problem", a fix that could not be endlessly litigated. |

Not if they figure out a new way to hand money to them by making it look like it's in our best interest.
I don't hate our new healthcare law. It has many good things but I'm still baffled by one aspect. What most folks seemed to hate about their medical care was how their insurance company handled their claims and how premiums kept rising. Yet the new and improved solution is guaranteeing those same companies millions of new customers -- most of which cannot afford their full premiums and the balance is paid by the federal government (i.e. tax payers). I still wonder if that's why the insurance companies didn't seem to complain too much when they were forced to spend 80% of the premium on medical care.
If neutrality unrest rises to the level that Congress needs to do something, I sure hope we don't do something similar that involves subsidizing carriers with even more government funds that we don't have. The country is broke and the last thing we need is more corporate welfare. |

The age of internet robber barons dawnsIt is too late. We are living in the age of digital robber barons. Krugman was prescient 10 years ago that this would happen. » www.nytimes.com/2002/12/ ··· ons.html |

Re: Tired of Netflix buffering?Maybe he should tell Netflix to increase their peering capacity. His hands are also tied until Congress gives him the power to act. And that's not likely at this point. The FCC screwed up before and now they want to change their mind- TOOOO bad for them. |

UnderstandFCC is a committee. It's prime function is to examine Applications for new/renewal of operator licenses for radio and television stations, U.S. Ham Radio operators, and wireline communication operators. It may oversee the acquisition of certain bandwidth frequencies and/or manage the sale. It may speak on behalf of the public in Congressional Hearings.
However: The FCC MAY NOT act on any matter before it WITHOUT approval from the United States Congress. |

Common carrierI'd like to see broadband ISPs be declared common carriers and be subject to state DPU regulation like telephone providers.
Internet is becoming more like a utility and less of a luxury. |

I've got an even better solution.
Give them a choice: they can be a common carrier and not have any responsibility for data they carry, or they can choose not to be but assume responsibility for data they carry.
So what that means is next time someone downloads kiddie porn over Verizon's network, McAdam's door gets kicked down and he's charged with distributing CP.
Let them run to common carrier status LOL. |

That would be like charging the bus driver with murder when a passenger (who he has little control over) uses the bus in a drive-by shooting. |

If they don't want that liability, they can choose to become a common carrier, which would mean they just neutrally pass bits along without regard for what they mean. (That's how it should be, I mean.) |

And buses are considered a common carrier unless the bus is marked "Not for hire" on the exterior.
I know Baystate Medical Center forces their employees to park offsite at a remote lot and take shuttle buses to the hospital. The buses they use are marked not for hire, which exempts them from common carrier. Another common carrier example is taxi cabs and freight companies.
The definition of a transportation common carrier is they must accept all loads or passengers as long as a fee is paid, there is space, and it is safe.
I've also seen tow trucks marked not for hire as well. |

I might be able to vote my Congress critter out, but if your's or someone else's is accepting bribes, I am powerless. |
