Re: Finally some warm weather! It even looks like I will have to mow my lawn for the first time this year this weekend. Not they are talking about snow flurries around my parts early next week! Nothing like all four season inside of four days. Enjoy the nice weekend anyway!

Re: Finally some warm weather!I just changed the oil on my mower and did my first mowing of the year. I'm enjoying whatever mild weather is left before the hot, sticky months of summer hit.

Modem FeeWell, I ended up buying a Motorola Surfboard 6141 modem for my godmother and will have it installed tomorrow so that she can stop paying $5.99/month to the Time Warner Cable overlords (and $8/month when Comcast takes over, subject to regulatory approval). Kinda looking forward to help saving her from spending $72/year on one of those crappy Docsis 2.0 modems from 2002 or something like that.

Re: PSA about the perils of bad driving? New Zealand style....My problem is that there's so many stupid people making mistakes all the time. When will they learn?

Re: PSA about the perils of bad driving? New Zealand style....That's not true at all. I hate when I hear this. In reality, if you go for a typical drive, out of the 2,000 or so vehicles you'll encounter, maybe two or three will do a bonehead move. And if you're a good defensive driver you should spot and avoid the mistakes even before they happen.
Most drivers on the road actually drive well. Everyone stops at red lights, drives on the right side of the road, stays at or near the speed limit, yields, etc.

Best one I ever saw many years ago late night (and I wish i had taped it), was a couple driving slowly on some two lane road, taking in the scenic beauty, and a guy tries to pass them on a curve or some such and gets it head on from another vehicle. A cautionary tale about slow driving, it was pretty funny actually, exact opposite of 99% of these things.

Re: PSA about the perils of bad driving? New Zealand style....I see a lot of comments on the subject and usually the people that speak out say that slow (speed limit could be slow to them) drivers are the problem. I tend to drive the speed limit for economical reasons and people diss that because they don't see gains in ONE trip. Occasionally I do 5 over but even that is not enough for some people.
Everyone makes their own decisions to tailgate or pass. They are in no way obligated when it isn't avoid any accident they just don't like the speed of the driver in front. If they want to waste their gas they are free to do so. I wasn't born to please other drivers either.
|

Re: PSA about the perils of bad driving? New Zealand style....I drive the speed limit religiously and watch my fuel economy on the LCD display. It's safer and I get better gas mileage. No rabbit starts and I anticipate the traffic and stop lights ahead so there's very little waste.

Re: PSA about the perils of bad driving? New Zealand style....It's been a long time, but I am fairly certain the gist of it was to not be a slow poke. I searched around a bit and couldn't find it. Hopefully it turns up somewhere down the line.

Re: PSA about the perils of bad driving? New Zealand style....LOL. In NZ, like most countries in the world outside North America, they use the metric system. So that'd be 106.1 kph or 66mph (mph = kph / 1.609).

Woo HooI have been buying matchbox cars off of Ebay to replace all the ones from the 60's that I played the paint off of. I use the proceeds from my program » tinyurl.com/pyhhmoz (Free here on DSLR to Members) and I was down to about $5.00 remaining in PayPal balance. I just had a sale so the auction is back on. Thank You Switzerland!. Blob EDIT: That link is to the software forum here on DSLR.

WARNING: random rants and colorful language inside.Had to spend $80 to buy a decent christmas tree storage bag because after only 3 years, the box it came in is absolutely falling the fuck apart. Why do they have to make the fucking box too small to fit the tree back into? I mean they save what, 10 cents in cardboard on a tree that costs hundreds of dollars?
Same shitty mentality at GM, where they'd rather save $0.02 per ignition switch on a $20,000 car, and to hell with the actual customers that are put at risk. They do this same penny-pinching crap all over the car, which is why their cars suck. And why they fall apart not longer after the warranty expires.
This is why I'll never buy another GM car. That, and the fact that the last GM car I owned turned out to be a complete piece of shit.

A plea to all cat peopleIf you are able, please help foster or make a donation of any amount to Great Lakes Bengal Rescue, a 501c3 charity. Bengals are terrific cats: love water, heights, dog-like in devotion, very active. Unfortunately, many are turned out because the owners don't do their research. Beautiful, too: spotted like leopards or marbled. Donations go DIRECTLY to help the cats; not like the ASPCA or Humane Society with about 20+% to 'administration'. Funds are for veterinary bills and food; the organization is 100% volunteers. » greatlakesbengalrescue.com/

Dual 2TB HDDs..in my laptop! I also had to put new thermal goo on the CPU and GPU, which meant I had to completely disassemble my G53SX. Now to get everything reinstalled. *sigh*

Re: One more thing...I just run XP in a VM.
But yes windows 8 seems to suck, not just the UI but even on software code. Seems to hate old software far more than Windows 7.
I shall miss XP being supported though. To the best OS made in the history of home PC's. I don't think an OS will ever match it this decade when it comes to service life + wide usage.

No Netflix - Provisioning Server Connection FailureHave a Sony Blu-ray player that won't play Netflix, etc. because it has to go thru Sony's server first and that is not working as it should. Maybe because of the Heartbleed problem. In any case, I was not aware Sony was spying on me. Now that I know, I'm not sure I want to use their system anymore.
