wow!

I can barely find one thing to watch, never mind 6, or 12 that I would need to toss additional dollars for....... good lord, is life so boring that we need to record 12 shows at once??

$32/month on top of existing HD service?

So this is going to cost $32+$11.99 (existing STB fee)= $44/mo for ONE TV? $56 for 2?? Talk about paying a premium!

Re: wow!

The tuners are there for remote boxes also. These are client/server DVRs.. The "remote" boxes don't have tuners like the old STB so anytime you fire up a remote box you are taking a tuner...

So say you are watching live shows on 2 boxes (inc the DVR) that takes 3 tuners, then you have 3 tuners free to record... You don't need to have 12, you can lease the 6 tuner version and get separate remote boxes.

This is a better and cheaper route for Verizon, they just determined to charge people more not less which is a shame.... People seem excited, so I can't blame them. The old system was like 10 year old tech, these only 3 years out of date

Yeah, I'm getting 1000/1000, 2TB DVR with up to 8 recording for $120 and extra TV box is only $5 and price goes down after 2 years after hardware is paid for. And no made up additional fees. Guess who with...

VZ is ripping off customers because they can.

Nobody is forcing them to use that stuff. You can get a cablecard ($5)and use whatever you want. I do and have saved thousands. Most people don't want to waste the time, so they pay. It's a potentially good system once they iron out the bugs and usability features between the two DVR.

I had a Moto 7232 they gave me for free --which they said was "state of the art", which I can tell you was circa 2000 tech compared to my SageTV and then WMC. I sent it back, because I knew it cost Verizon good $ and I wasn't going to use it.

These new devices have the potential to stream apps, etc...They are essentially Rokus with your typical closed Verizon API's. Imagine if they opened them up? Then there is value...

I hear however, that recently VZ is making it VERY difficult for people to sign up w/ CC only--they are really pushing their ultra-high margin boxes.

I have a tivo (which I still would rather have). Over time it pays for itself and I hated the regular verizon dvr with it's bugs and crashes and just plain old clunkier interface.

Hopefully they've done a better job on this one. For that amount I'd especially go take a look at Tivo.

2 TV. $32 for the 1st TV/DVR and then is goes down from there. So I checked it would be $42 for 2 TV (DVR, Remote box) in my hood. I can't say if you want "premium" what that would cost...

I'm recording six things concurrently just about every day with my TiVo Roamio Pro. It has 3TB of storage which isn't close to enough. 1TB would not cut it for me.

Tivo Roamio has the same limitation using mini's as the Quantum VMS does with it's Ip boxes. Both designs require the satellite boxes to use tuners from the Host when viewing channels.

Re: wow!

With all that recording, I'll wager that doesn't leave much time for watching all that 'stuff' you are recording....

You're not seeing the big picture, not everyone lives alone, when you live in a home with more than one person sometimes different people want to record different things at the same time which is why things like 6 or 12 tuners are popular.

Re: TV in Greenwich

I think that is their only CT market, upside is everybody in Greenwich can afford the full package. that town is all gated communities and multi-million dollar homes.

Yeah, I know. I was surprised, because I knew Greenwich had FIOS, but I didn't think they had video there. The rest of CT is AT&T U-Verse and a hodge-podge of various cable companies.
