Self servingThe speedtest part is self-serving. Throttled speedtest results would hurt T-Mobile's rankings. |

Re: Stop comparing TMO to ATTI'll change my tune when it is all converted and works as advertised. I had Sprint for a very long time and kind of have fatigue when it come to promices and "network is underway". Sprint launched LTE my city with maybe 15% coverage and TMO with around 30%. TMO can't claim LTE here as goes from one pocket to another, noting continuous. |

TMO competes with Sprint and MVNOs IMO. I had TMO, all my friend from Boston to NYC to San San Fransisco had TMO.
We all tried it and thought the company itself is great. Their network is next to unusable. Missed calls, network killing handoffs between towers and HSPA+ and LTE.
They are non existing on even the busy highways, unless you count Edge, which is hard since there is no application you can use on edge, not even modern email clients.
Even in NYC and Boston, coverage was inconsistent between cell sites, and the second you were in a building it vanished nearly every time.
ATT competes with Verizon and as long as those two are the REAL US providers we as consumers get the shaft.
TMO could offer free 100/100 LTE for life unlimited and a teddy bear and it would be hard to make the case for anyone that walks outside the 5 block area they live in.
You cant go anywhere with TMO and having a cellphone for better or for worse is a necessary these days, especially for anyone who relies on email for work.
TMO needs to stop with the gimmicks and really convert edge to LTE and stabalize the network so they can be like ATT and VZ, we all win then.
It is why against my hate of Sprint wanting this merger, I wish for a real 3rd choice in competition. I have those same exact problems with att here on long island. On LI I could barely use TMO. Before I even left Queens it dropped to unusable 4G, and once in Suffolk, the 4G became less than 1mbit up/down. I'm not saying ATT/VZ are all great, they are evil and customer support is nowhere near as good as TMO. (Although ATT is awesome compared to VZ). What I am saying is ATT/VZ have full networks that actually work to in places you have to go to, and not just within a mile of "good" tower. |

Re: Self servingWhat's the point of throttling a speedtest? T-Mobile uses the data to assess network speed and quality. |

That's why I made my comment. |

It's not just about rankings. It's an actual tool they use to assess the network. |

How much data does a Speed Test use each time?Is it even significant? |

Re: The opposite tact of AT&TIt's kinda interesting that T-Mobile also places choice of providers in public's hands. Want underdog of a Google Music to be included? Vote for it. In which case I wonder how can this complain be formulated -- company offers user a discount on most frequently used services, with a chance to vote for more providers. It still sucks for a startup, but brings up many questions. |
