Nope it's not. It's you. If one is the kind of person with access to cricket some other pre-paid company them maybe. For many whose only option for pre-paid has been limited to crappy 3G service and devices this is pretty good. Also those that do not use much data( and surprise many people have discovered this new thing called wi-fi ) this is also a good deal. |

Not BadI would consider it if it had a bit more data. Right now I have StraitTalk on ATT. For $45/month I get 3GB. Everything I read claims Verizon has the best coverage. That's worth something but I don't leave a major metro area that often and it isn't worth losing 2.5GB of data per month. I generally don't use more than 1GB but that sounds like a problem if I were to switch to this plan. Perhaps if they offered 1GB for $45 it might work for me. 500MB is a bit stingy. |

If you set up auto-pay you get 1 GB for $45. Also if you read you can add data. Up to an extra 6 GB a month. Also ST that uses Verizon's network is 3G only. And you can only use 3G phones. And in either case you can tether( legally ) on ST. If that is important. I might also add many people don't use much data since they have access to wi-fi. I think I've used 50 MB this month and I have 11 days left. |

Re: Ridiculous?It is just you.
$45 for 1GB LTE with unlimited talk/text, prepaid, for the so-coveted Verizon brand, is fantastic.
Personally, I have yet to see evidence of the reputed coverage, quality and performance, but if you believe in Brand VZW, that's an awesome deal, compared to the typical $120/month one pays on the two-year contract. |

LOL VZWquote: Previously, prepaid users were allowed allowed on Verizon's EVDO/3G/CDMA network to reduce strain on the LTE network.
Should be interesting to see how this works out. 'round here LTE is so oversold that, unless it's the middle of the night, EVDO is usually faster. |

Anyway when your area gets XTLE lit up that should help. Also Verizon is converting a portion of their 3G spectrum to LTE next year. |

Let's compare networks too. Oh wait no contest. 230 million have access to T-Mobile or soon, T-Mobile says. Sounds impressive but 305 have access to Verizon. So my math says that 1 out of every 4 people that has access to Verizon does not have access to T-Mobile. So maybe people should quite telling others to "just switch" since there is fair chance they can't. |

Same here, which is why I dropped Verizon and went with Pageplus. 3G is more than fast enough for a cellphone, i notice zero difference from 4G except that 3G was usually faster during peak hours. Saving over $1200/year for 3 phones and loving every minute of it. |

Re: LOL VZWWell technically you didn't drop Verizon, you are just on wholesale, but it is still Verizon (and some others to fill coverage gaps). I had PPC for years, but gave up when the newer VZ phones are all LTE and unsupported on PPC. Sure I could flash, but why bother.
WHEN PPC starts offering LTE, it will be good, however I'm sure it will come with a commensurate Verizon tax downstream.
I can get LTE/AT&T on a number of MVNO using the latest kit for less $$$. |

Re: Ridiculous? It not out of bounds, and for $50 you get 1.5GB. If they expire the promo for $45/500MB then I would say that is a rip, because you can get that for $27 on H20 (AT&T) for the same data, and no it's not LTE, but H+ which smokes Verizon 3G.
The problem w/ a lot of the AT&T MVNO is that they play throttling games, or you have to call to get full speed, or unlock, etc...So YYMV.
Verizon is about 10-20% more than AT&T which I only consider if you need wide coverage. TMO and Sprint are 2nd tier carriers and should cost less because there coverage is significantly poorer. If you don't travel and they are covered in your hood, then you are fine.
We shall see how the roll out to MVNO and see what the big red tax on LTE shall be. |
