Comments on news posted 2014-08-12 16:17:37: You might think that after more than a decade of analyzing and discussing the key issues surrounding net neutrality that the government would have gathered enough information to have a yeoman's grasp of the subject. ..

They sure do put on a good show. A round table by the revolving door.

Useless Dog & Pony shows

Who, without a need to get a good nap, would attend these sessions except lobbyists for the telco & cable industries and the lawyers for all the public interest groups? And those public interest groups are nothing but part of the full employment industry for lawyers who can't earn an honest living. This is held in DC area because that is where all these leeches on society live.

Unfortunately this isn't an issue that is resolved by knowledge, but by power. In order to alter the balance of power you have to change perceptions and the framing of debate and this is a long slow process that can be facilitated by dialogues like this. It's easy to be cynical about it but without doing this over and over and over perceptions aren't likely to change and policy won't change.

And they haven't figured out how to make it sound boring enough to be ignored by the masses.

Wheeler must really hate John Oliver right now.

Politicians have gone to jail over these ethics

If you have read the history books, there have been many politicians that have gone to jail over these kinds of ethics.

There is a word in the English language that describes it: Corruption.

Many politicians in Massachusetts have ended their careers going out in handcuffs. We had three state house speakers go down in a row and and they got jail time. The former mayor of Chicopee went to jail, many state house members have gone down. Look at Rhode Island, half the state house is legislating from their jail cells. This is because the FBI investigates state and local politicians and their dirty deeds.

Too bad the FBI cannot do its job and investigate congress, the FCC, and every other federal agency involved in corrupt practices.

Recute the Seat Stuffers.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse Unneutrality - Verizon, AT&T, Comcast and Time Warner - may hire homeless people as Seat Stuffers to prevent room for honest to gawd stakeholders from getting into the room

Stall.. stall.. delay.. delay.. until public interest starts to fade. The public has already spoken via millions of comments that crashed FCC's comment system.

At these events, watch out for industry-sponsored shills. Also watch out for fake net-neutrality supporters who will try to make the rest of us sound like idiots, hence attempting to discredit our concerns. This is nothing but a PR stunt for the industry.

FYI, this is going to be streamed live, as per FCC's notice.

Just exactly what is it?

Neutrality is allegedly the state of being impartial. I fail to find it as there is no area of America that is owned by a telephone company that welcome or allows competition. Price fixing and back room deals is rampant. ADSL phone over copper is no more reliable than VoIP over cable. 10/1 in rural America is a pipe dream past the 'last mile'. I ain't gonna happen any faster than screaming quick downloads from Sat Tv. 1.5/.5 isn't much faster with "boost" than the fastest dialup connection about 3am.

As long as there is no competition allowed, and speed and quantity are throttled and tied to the corporate bottom line there will never be an internet that is fair, impartial, or affordable for all.

That is EXACTLY who and what they need to investigate too!

We have a state ethics commission in Mass (which is basically a joke). Too bad the federal government doesn't have a similar ethics commission with authority that isn't part of congress.

A simpler explanation

You can put the tin foil hats away.

The reason the meetings are being held in DC is due to lack of money. There is simply nothing in the budget that would allow the five commissioners to all travel to six different locations around the country to take public input on this issue.

If an ISP offered to foot the bill, the howls of protest from the pro-NN side would be deafening. I suspect all the workshops will be streamed live, and if the past is prologue, you should be able to email questions to the panelists in real-time.

Or via twitter, if they give us a hashtag to use.
