Dear lord no.........

DirecTV is perfectly fine without AT&T coming in and screwing them up.

Well at least it will be a smooth merger as the corporate culture towards customers is the same, bleed them for every penny!

They should offer as standalone product

They should be required to offer DirecTV as a standalone product and not force bundling.

DirecTV is a viable competitor to Comcast. Dish is also an option but they don't carry the local ABC or Fox stations in our area. I currently bundle DirecTV with Verizon Home Phone and I hope that remains an option.

They should be required to allow customers to self install as well.

Block it.

It is worse than a Comcast/TWC merger. AT&T/DirecTV reduces a competitor in AT&T areas whereas Comcast/TWC does not reduce a competitor anywhere.

Agree with every comment above but...

Where does Dish not carry Fox and ABC?

U-Verse is hardly anywhere an DirecTV doesn't sell internet.

Since half the people with DirecTv live in areas where DSL/U-verse internet is not available I'm curious as to how bundling can be forced? At&t doesn't force bundling now. Hell you can get DSL without phone and it's been that way for YEARS.

Now my local choices will be AT&T and Comcast. I got DirecTV specifically to not choose one of these.

Re: They should offer as standalone product

they should down play U-Verse and move subs over to DirecTV that have LOS and maybe have U-Verse as rain fade backup / for people who don't have good LOS.

U-Verse can use the TV bandwidth for faster internet also fiber to home areas can use better TV bit rates.

They can only bundle the services with AT&T in the AT&T regions. IowaCowboy has no clue how it would work in a non-AT&T region.

They're talking about some broadband product that hasn't been launched yet. I'm happy now with Comcast for internet, DirecTV for TV and Verizon for home phone (Verizon home phone and DirecTV are currently bundled). I refuse to buy triple plays.

I would like an alternative to Comcast though. Competition is good.

Yes I did, they have been great for me. I can call them and they reduce my bill without having to threaten to cancel. When we went back to them after a year they gave me all my old incentives plus more. I can't complain.

With AT&T I can now see the introduction of a ton of below the line fees, charges etc. Awesome.

DirecTV: 19.981 million subscribers
Comcast: 22 million subscribers
TWC: 8.8 million subscribers
uVerse: 4.3 million subscribers
Note: According to Wikipedia.

If TWC + Comcast combined, they would have roughly 30.8 million subscribers. However, if AT&T and DirecTV merged they would have roughly 25.3 million subscribers. And since we all know that Comcast is pretty much the most hated company in America (by far), this is a merger we really don't want to happen.

The merger of Comcast and TWC would be the worst of the two mergers because they would not only command a much larger chunk of the pay-TV market than a combined AT&T and DirecTV, they would also maintain control over NBC Universal and that's even worse. DirecTV doesn't own any major network providers.

Honestly, I'd take the AT&T + DirecTV merger over the merger of Comcast + TWC any day of the week. That's not to say that I like any of the two mergers but the DirecTV and AT&T merger is the "less evil" one of the two.

No NFL Ticket

One of the stipulations should be no exclusive rights to NFL Sunday ticket. Let all providers carry it. I would hate to pay AT&T anything for any service. I would literally pay anyone else any amount of money for the NFL Ticket.

U-Verse is hardly anywhere an DirecTV doesn't sell internet.

They will let the copper deteriorate and use the satellite system to keep the internet numbers adequate on a per zipcode basis. Same story as the telcos dreams with LTE replacing hard infrastructure.

Need proof, run the numbers and you'll know which is more profitable and that is the requirement.

Honestly I think Comcast should be forced to spin off NBC Universal if they want to buy TWC. A cable company should never have been allowed to own a content producer to begin with.

In the world of media production and distro, Vertical integration is never good for the consumer.

I don't do business with Comcast. I do business with DirecTV however and do not want AT&T and Comcast to combine. I want to know what "deal" was made; likely in the form of campaign contributions and other "gifts".

The Comcast channel offerings around here aren't that great and you have to buy the sports entertainment package to get two channels we watch (Turner Classic Movies and Fox Movie Channel) which adds $8 to your bill. And they charge like $10 for HD, $10 for DVR, $10 for whole house, $10 per additional TV, so in reality DirecTV is Cheaper. Comcast in our area is kind of a Bait and Switch game and if state law applied to cable companies Bait and Switch is illegal in Mass. DirecTV has lower programming costs, more channels, up front pricing, and additional TVs are only $6.

I don't care for the above mentioned channels but must haves for Mom and Grandma.

I'm waiting for the alarm company to call me back so I can weigh the costs of ditching the home phone. If it's going to cost $500 to go wireless than the payback period might not be worth it because I don't know if I'll be here in 5 years.

Right now my plans are to work on my CDL and get a job driving buses (hopefully local transit buses with working A/C, been on buses many times with broken A/C as a passenger and it's not fun).

No it's called a monopoly. This is not pure competition and shouldn't be allowed.
