Comments on news posted 2014-09-04 08:36:31: The Wall Street Journal again confirms that the NFL did hold talks with Google and Microsoft about the possibility of offering NFL game streaming over the Internet, but nothing so far has come of those talks. ..

download caps and bandwith likey killed that idea also sports bars want some

download caps and bandwidth likely killed that idea also sports bars want something that is easy as well having all the other channels as well.

So..

With a 30-40 percent rate hike NFL Sunday Ticket will be 500-600 after next season.

Google and Microsoft can't offer the NFL Sunday Ticket

The NFL's Sunday Ticket service is quite unique. The service would have to be offered in all 50 states and it must be able to deliver at least 14 HD channels simultaneously. This week alone there are ten 1:00pm games, a Mix Channel, a Red Zone Channel, a Fantasy Zone channel not to mention streaming live games to their customers mobile devices. To offset costs I would like to see the NFL and DirecTV licensing ISP's to offer their Short Cuts (watch whole games in 30 minutes) game footage. I see that could be a major win, win for all ISP's and NFL fans.

Here's an idea DirecTV

Offer streaming Sunday Ticket WITHOUT the requirement that we also have your TV service. You'll make hundreds of MILLIONS of dollars to help offset the 30%-40% increase. Maybe one day you'll get that there are millions of us that would rather do without Sunday Ticket rather than be forced to get DirecTv.

caps and bandwidth don't effect MLB.TV and they have more than 10X as many games.

NFL Game Pass For The Win!

Pretty simple workaround for this, a VPN or DNS service with NFL Game Pass. Stream every game without blackouts. Depending on the "country you're in", I've been able to get it for $129.99

Sorry I rather not do illegal thing or mess with VPN. I'll speak with my wallet and NOT give the NFL any more of my money until they offer a service I can properly use. You're not helping things. And committing fraud.

Re: Google and Microsoft can't offer the NFL Sunday Ticket

They might have to offer 14 simultaneous streams but hardly anyone will stream that many at the same time. In fact I suspect the number of streams you can access at any given time will be restricted. It was with DirecTV's streaming package last year.

Cable TV has to pipe every channel down the tube at the same time, Internet streaming is on demand.

Re: NFL Game Pass For The Win!

Fraud, who is it exactly I'm defrauding? It's not the NFL since I did pay for a service. If they can't figure a way to stop VPNs or don't want to invest in stopping it, that's their problem.

Sure they do or the ISP's are violating an open network by partnering with them.

As more cable systems move to IPTV, they won't have to pipe every channel simultaneously to every subscriber. They'll adopt the ATT Uverse model, which limits you to four simultaneous streams (or maybe a few more on fiber based systems).

that is why it needs to be cable / sat so the bars have a easy way to get it and to be able to show all games at the same time.

Fraud in what way? A user is simply using the technology available to them to get what they want while paying for the service. Fraud in my book is when someone promises something and then does something else.

Re: Google and Microsoft can't offer the NFL Sunday Ticket

U-Verse is based on multicast, not unicast. It saves on bandwidth over the wire because it's broadcast once to the node to all the subscribers.

There is no way to apply this type of method to discreet point to point streams.
