| Customer Service As Defined By George Carlin
"Complaints include inaccessible e-mail, failure to log onto more than a third of the time, lousy customer service, and nothing but general answers to specific problems."
And this is headline news? Got more for you - their track record isn't unique to Maryland, not by a longshot. Everyone blessed to live within their franchise know that Adelphia's idea of "servicing the customer" comes straight from a George Carlin monologue. |

| Issue Here is Respect for the Customer
Irrespective of inexcusable delays in rebuilding cable plant, and intermittent outages that would lead anyone to conclude that such service is really no service, Adelphia has enraged it subscribers and local franchise authorities with its refusal to provide any information with respect to anticipated dates of launching new services or remedying serious problems with its existing service.
Adelphia appears to be unique in this respect, and clearly earns, IMHO, the title as the worst cable operator among the major MSOs. Any local franchising authority would be remiss not to nail this company to the wall when negotiating a new franchise agreement for this operator has demonstrated a propensity to abuse its de facto monopoly to a level unprecedented in recent history. |

| It's nice to know...
I find comfort in the fact that with the right "channels", complaints will be taken seriously. The problem is when people are having a bad experience with their internet provider they just complain to their friends and family. Therefore nothing is done to improve the situation.
It would be most helpful if someone would be willing to provide local and national addresses and phone numbers for organizations that will help out. Consumer advocates. Or maybe that information is already posted somewhere and a link to that site would be helpful. -- Arch Angel - "Death is irrelevant" |

| Words from an Adelphia employee...
Here is a quote from a "cough* "concerned Adelphia employee... (quote can be found in the Adelphia forum here on DSLR). quote: this isn't an information forum it is who can slam adelphia the hardest
This is the fundamental issue, "they" are not listening to their customers. According to them, we are the ones with the problem. It is sad... |

| Adelphia does get better
In Blacksburg, VA the one-way powerlink service that was here for so long was horrible. I think they had 3 or 4 nodes for the entire town. After the long awaited digital cable / fiber optic upgrade, each apartment complex alone has 4-6 nodes and powerlink service has been (at the risk of sounding fanatic) outstanding.
I waited for years to finally get broadband so I know the wait can be frustrating, probably more so if you already have broadband that's slow and crappy. Adelphia gets bashed a lot, but when they finally do get around to doing their own upgrades, they do know what they are doing and can provide good service. If only they would improve their customer relations to let people know WHEN they plan on upgrading. It might help them in this Maryland situation. |

Adelphia is not bad everywhere. It isn't bad from a place that they took over. Comcast used to be the provider here about 1/2 a year ago here. I get excellent speeds like before, but they need the money to upgrade their current situation. If they get a major loan, I am pretty sure that they could make the payment back, if after they upgrade their status, mainly because they won't have to be giving refunds daily for downtime. |

| A family owned and operated business!
A family owned and operated business, Adelphia is the brainchild of the Don Vito Rigas family. The first clue of what you are dealing with comes when the Adelphia installer arrives at your home wearing a mask. After you point out to the installer the difference between your computer and the water heater they attempt to connect your computer to their "service". Adelphia starts at the bottom and works it way down from there. When you have problems, and 90 percent of you will, just wait until you call customer service, better known as the spin room. If Adelphia had owned the Titanic when it struck the iceberg they would have made an announcement that the ship was going to be delayed because it had stopped to take on ice. Most every one you talk to has a voice and mannerism eerily like Homer Simpsons.
The bottom line is unless you happen to live in Santa Monica, Buffalo, or a few other isolated pockets in places such as Ohio and Florida you are going to have nothing but problems with Adelphia. They are absolutely, positively, without a doubt the worse cable broadband company in America.
The most annoying thing about them is that the ownership really doesnt care about anything other than getting your money. Their philosophy is pretty straightforward. Sign up as many people as possible and get as much money as possible. Sign them up even if you know that you cant possibly deliver anything close to what you are advertising. After they get their customers they will then deal with providing an infrastructure capable of providing what they advertised. Adelphia has to do it that way because they dont currently have an adequate network or infrastructure.
They are plain and simple a dishonest company at the upper levels. They are consistently rated dead last by virtually every reputable rating service in the nation. And, they are getting worse. When the customer calls in the closest thing to satisfaction they can get is by verbally taking out their frustrations on some poor customer service representative who has no control over the problem the customer is experiencing and is untrained, underpaid, and used by ownership as a shield between them and the customers.
I am confident if you went into the office of the highest ranking member of the company, on the wall behind their desk would be the motto: "Greed is Good!" and above that a picture of the Gordon Gekko character from the movie "Wall Street".

| Ditto. Rigas's philosophy which he has conveyed: Put out the product so that it's one step ahead of the competition, even if it doesn't work right and we'll fix the problems later. Yea we'll see about that.
Fact: Adelphia just got rid of it's ABIZ business which sucked 2 Billion + from it over the past 4 years, money which could have gone to sorely needed cable and network improvements. Instead it went to new markets where ABIZ didn't have any on-net fiber and obviously couldn't even be supported, all for the sake of "national brand name" familiarity.
Now look at where ABIZ is at, nearly bankrupt. It's stock is what, 11 or 12 cents? What a joke! Trying to take in every last penny before going down for the count.
Good luck Adelphia. |

I live in Suburban Buffalo and unless they got a lot better this past year then I challenge your statement. I said it before, I actually went back to dial-up for a period rather than go back to Adelphia. |

I'm not surprised.
I don't think that Adelphia's cable TV service is that good (for a number of reason) so why would I want their Internet service? Thank God I have DSL..... -- If you're wondering how he eats and breathes and other science facts, then repeat to yourself "it's just a show, I should really just relax" |

Number one you are lucky that Powerlink is not available in your area. In their case they are worse than nothing. Number two, they've been "upgrading" everywhere for the past two years. At least that is what they say. Of course, nine times out of ten it works worse after the upgrade. |

| Powerlink OK here
Although I had some problems in the beginning, all works very well now. Nearly 100% up time and download speeds near T1 speed (100-150 kbps). I agree their customer service is the worst. When I was having problems, nobody was concerned or competent. However, they did find the problem on their own eventually and things work great! I have to say I like my PowerLink. Now if I can just figure out a way to make the CM accept two CPE's... |

It may be good now;I know I have it too but I look for it to get like everyone else's before it's over.I've had it since they first turned it on as a "beta tester" if you will and haven't had too many outages yet but as it grows I don't expect to have the same attitude about it.I do hope I'm wrong though. |
