I live here

I'm almost ashamed to be living in the same city as these folks (at least their mailing address). I too have received offers to transfer my domains' registrations to these people (and I use that term loosely). I just love how they put their domain name in their "bill;" they immediately went into my /etc/mail/deny file...so in other words, I refuse all email from these folks.

I'm quite happy with inexpensivedomains.com, thank you very much.

English is a difficult enough language to interpret correctly when its rules are followed, let alone when a writer doesn't follow those rules.

Re: Thanks for the heads up!

If you do get this trash, make sure to report them to the FTC. Hopefully, with enough complaints, they'll open a case against these disingenuous people.

Glad I red this cause I got one yesterday!

I just got one yesterday for my domain. I just glanced over it.

What a load of crap. So who do I get to send this "bill" to?

Re: I got two in the mail just yesterday

We get these all the time because we host and own so many domain names. We had a couple of faxes as well which look official, please fill in your information her and fax it for renewal etc...

At the end of the day, we know that Register.com is our registrar and that anyone else out there sending us mail is just trying to make a buck from people that panic.

I got three of those mailers last month. I just rolled my eyes and ignored them. From work, I'm already used to getting offers disguised as bills, or calls checking shipping information for orders I never placed.

DRA must be counting (hard) on folks not paying attention.

They've been doing this for a couple of years by my receipt of them. Know thy registrar, and tear up anything come from any others.

I get these in the mail all the time too AND the e-mails. It's very confusing for some people, because they do look like bills. I sent them an e-mail asking them to stop sending the unsolicited e-mails and telling them nobody requested the transfers. They were actually very nice in their response and apologized. Go figure. For that domain at least... As for the snail mail versions, they keep coming.

GUYS!! send those back!!!!

Guys, DONT throw those away.. You can't hurt them that way.. use the paid postage envelopes. put some junk it there and send it back... Make them pay for every since mail. I usually put junk mail from other companies in those envelops. Same thing with those telemarketers. Just put them on hold for as long as you can. That's the only way to hurt them. Waste their time like how they waste yours.

Re: I got two in the mail just yesterday

Add me to the list...only it wasn't for a currently registered domain, but a solicitation for a .info TLD registration. It came via fax and looked quite pretty with all the tiny "legal type" all over.

Whatever.

I've got a plan, make up your own invoice and send them an "a$$hole bill"

Re: I got two in the mail just yesterday

I don't remember if they came first to commercial or personal registered accounts (domain registrar accounts) in my case but I suspect it was for the commercial domains. My commercial NSI registered account info brings in floods of postal spam. The registrars haven't really dealt with any of this by updating an old system that broadcasts your information to anyone who wants it for whatever reason.

i got 5 in the last week

as a small webhost, i keep getting them

and they are almost dire in wording, they sound like if i dont send them money ill lose my service!

i was very tempted to call ICANN and DirectNIC, and report them, seeing as they are trying to steal business from DIRECTNIC.

Illegal

Too late. Corporations thought of that one, and you will most likely get nailed for mail fraud...Give that it contains information traceable back to you.

Hmmmm

And I thought I was the only one who did that!

I usually pull the recyclable stuff out and write something to the effect of "stop sending non-recyclable junk mail" on the glossy crap, seal up the postage paid envelope and chuckle while I drop it in the mail box!

Dave

P.S. I was duly impressed by the American Flag motif of this mailing. Interesting to note they sent me 3 separate mailings for each of 3 domains I registered at the same time. That's gotta cost some money...

Got it too

I have to admit that the offer was tempting, 1 year renewal for $25, and 2 years for $40. After thinking about it, I said to myself: "Why would Register.com (the registrar with which I originally registered my domain name) give away my domain name to someone else?" Then I read this, and felt good I didn't fill out that paperwork.
