Comments on news posted 2002-03-19 19:43:12: Right now, 19:40 eastern, yahoo DNS servers all refuse to resolve any sub-domains. This means such things as news.yahoo.com, mail.yahoo.com, and other XXXX.yahoo.com URLs will simply hang, waiting for one of the many yahoo DNS servers to respond. ..

That would explain why I cant getinto any Yahoo site or use Messenger. Am I the only one that cant get into MSN Messenger right now? 4:56 pm PST. MSN seems to be going down a lot lately for "maintenance". I wonder what the hell is going on.

Can even happen to the big guys

It happened to a good portion of the ct.us domain over the weekend. Nobody could get the DNS names resolved for our website and email.

Re: Think creative

A good idea is to have DNS caches on our computers. I have one but it only remembers the last 100 DNS Entries:(. It doesn't remember yahoo's IPs.

Re: Good thing for DSLreports

would be pretty easy (well not for me, but you )

just something that pings every -insert time- minutes. you would need to ping from a couple points on the web, if all or most failed you would know something was up.

BTW Justin your site still rocks, I was away for a while, I am glad i came back, all the good parts of the way it was in 2000 are still here, plus all kinds of new additions.

Re: Good thing for DSLreports

well ping isnt enough.
Ping wouldnt pickup this problem.
You'd need to do a bunch of things.. starting with ping and working up the complexity ladder. Ending with end-to-end instant messages, email messages and so on..

Re: Somebody was Naughty

actually thats really not anything - you're just doing a search for any domains with yahoo anywhere in them -- thus picking up those little vanity insult domains..

Weirdness was happening earlier this evening

I went to www.yahoo.com earlier tonight (maybe after 6 eastern or so) and noticed that the URL in the address bar of IE said "news.yahoo.com". I thought it was odd, but didn't give it much thought until now. Wonder if it's related.

Probably wasn't a DNS-related problem if the Web server redirected you for some reason.

Been Acting Up Allllllll Daaaaaaay

Is it my imagination or has Yahoo gotten increasingly sssssssslllllllooooooowwwwwww since the last weekend "group maintenance"? All I know is that today it took 10 mins to log-in and another 10 to get to the inbox and another 10 to read/delete/write anything.

Crazy Yahoo

Well at least spam.yahoo.com is down also. Ah, Yahoo, that crazy cyber half brother of the Internet and real legitimate ISPs. You know, like the family secret or relative you keep locked up in the attic closet and never tell anyone about.

There always has been a dark side to them.
