IT HAS STARTED

Well, well, well - a De-Cert application in the Wonderful Word of Shaw has happened in White Rock, B.C., Canada - and this is just the start.

Mark my words Shaw Employees in Canada - Shaw will push and get their way - they have the TIME/MONEY/EXPERIENCE and MUSCLE to get their way.

When you least expect it - BANG - they will start my moving Managers around so to select piece workers who they want on their side and when they get the numbers and the time is open - BANG - get your resumes ready or learn to work as NON-UNION CANADIAN CABLE WORKERS

THE PUSH IS ON

Well I hear SHAW has talked the TFR's in White Rock to apply for a de-cert - it has just started North Vancouver is next - and no support from the IBEW.

Boys you are going down - they will load the deck to make sure the vote goes their way - as long as the Company can pick the TFR's - you are DEAD MEAT.

I suggest the whole SHAW CABLE operation in the Lower Mainland will be non-union within 2 years.

Get your resumes printed and pass them out.

Best of luck.

THE DE-CERTS ARE UNDER WAY

Shaw Cable has started the De-Cert's in Canada with White Rock, B.C. first and North Vancouver to follow. They load the deck with TFR's out number the boys and WHAM it is over.

There are solutions to STOP THE DE-CERT, however the action must be taken ASAP - BEFORE THE VOTE.

To my fellow Canadian Union Sisters & Brothers, don't rely on the IBEW to do a thing for you - they are out of touch and don't understand how to fight back.

I am sure since the application was filed - the IBEW HAS YOU ON HOLD - to bad - you will be non-union and out of a job or if selected by Shaw to work - it will be as a TFR and non-union.

There is a way and it is available but you must act NOW.

Good Luck

WHITE ROCK, B.C. - SHAW WON NOW NON-UNION

Well - SHAW has won again - they have 50% plus 1 for a de-cert, and it appears the board will accept this.

The IBEW state that they will be filing an appeal - HO HUM.

Before the board announces it's decision - you better contact - a friend - I understand that there is a way to stop the de-cert - BUT TIME IS AGAINST YOU.

GOOD LUCK - AND BYE TO THE THE UNION MOVEMENT - YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN NOW.

IT'S A DONE DEAL - WHITE ROCK B.C. GONE

Well the board has 50% plus 1 - so that's it you can consider yourself now NON-UNION - get ready to purchase your trucks and get paid for production not by the hour.

The IBEW states that they will file an appeal - HO HUM, to little to late.

Contact a friend there is a way - BUT TIME IS NOT ON YOUR SIDE.

GOOD LUCK

@sprint.ca

I spit on Shaw.

Here I have a story to tell you my chronicle with shaw cable. It a bit long, sorry.

I live in vancouver BC. I have been working in this Cable internet for a VERY(enough for me) long time(2 years being a PC Tech,5 months on Cable and PC Tech). I started out with this PC servicing company that was contracted by Rogers cable. Rogers cable used to own and run the operation here in the west. At that time everybody is happy. well almost everyone is happy, except some customers will complain on unresolved tickets(quite a few). But at least everyone, including the customers are treated with respect. Then in my 2nd year being a pc tech, Shaw cable came back to the WEST after a business pact with Rogers cable - swapping territories. Things start to take a downturn. I heard a lot of talks, among the cable technician that I usually bumped into onsite, about how Shaw cables hate Unions. And how bad customers and employees or contractors being treated.

Later I got a job(better) to work as both PC and cable technician. Its a contracting company for shaw. or should I say one of the few contracting companies in BC that work for the cable-operator in BC. Many cable techs who were working in those contracting companies are very FINE, Experience, Veteran cable technician because they have done this few many years. The contracting Cable companies have done this many years. I was luckt to be trained by a few veteran cable technician. I've learnt a lot of tricks of the trade from them.

I remember that 5 months were the busiest days I have seen. It is the result of the aggressive marketing promotion shaw cables had taken on to increase their customer base. We(all contracting companies in BC) were hit by these high volume installation(cable internet and digital box) that new cable tech were being hired every week. While the experience cable tech were still employed by these 3rd party contractors compnaies, Shaw on the other hand were also aggressively bring in new-blood(TFR) under a different so-called-union. Shaws actually hired almost 250 people in vancouver during a short time. Thesee new SHAW TFRs (non-shaw-employees) are totally inexperience, gotten off from the street people. really gotten off from the street because at that time shaw was hiring TFR, experience cable tech were busy doing installs for their contracting companies. Most of these TFR are not experience with PC nor Cable nor internet. Some TFR were actually recuited from the tele-marketing and technical support department. They were trained a week and were put out on the road to do 'install'. These inexperience / poorly presented people gotten a lot of customer pissed off. This is how shaw 'payback' for its customer. As of today, I still hear these TFR are not doing a proper job. (One TFR just 'dropped off' (literally, he didnt do squat. just dropped off!) a cable modem in my business partner office today. It is a business plan high speed internet, the installation is not free. the installation costs him $250 canadian! and the guy just dropped off the modem.)

As you all know the ending, TFRs, or People on the street have taken our jobs. Contracting companies for cable opertators are history. Shaw has successfully broken the unions. Note TFR belong to a hybrid-union. And the customers are treated with no respect.
As for us, or the veteran cable technicain or the contracting cable company, were all out of work.

BTW, Shaw has increased their HighSpeedInternet monthy fee 3dollars to $42 dollars canadaian. and recently imposed a 6 Gigabytes per month limited on download. U think 6 gig bytes is enough, Think again. Lucky i am not a shaw users.

THE TRUTH

The TFR's,Service Technicians and Installers in Vancouver, Surrey and Abbottsford are NOT members of any Hybrid , or Rat Union or any other such organization. We are all members of the Telecommunications Workers Union of Canada, who represent nearly 20,000 workers in the communications industry in this country , the vast majority of whom are employed by TELUS, the telco in B.C. and Alberta. We WILL fight for our jobs. The problem is not the TFR's. It is the employer and their unwillingness to abide by our collective agreement. This agreement is in place to ensure a fair, safe and equitable work environment. Support your Union and say NO,NO,NO to any attempt at decertification. We will win but we all must be Rock Solid . For the record, I love my job and would like nothing more than to be a happy SHAW employee and Union member , however the employer seems uninterested in this. All for one , and one for all Brothers and Sisters. WE WILL WIN....

DE-CERT AGAIN

A e-mail arrived to me regarding my last post, I would like to left that person know the following info, that your Union the IBEW I understand did not inform the members, and lead the members to vote on opening a collective aggreement allowing TFR's to do MORE OF YOUR WORK.

SHORT GAIN FOR LONG TIME PAIN.

The IBEW did not win the De-cert vote nor did the company. The truth is both the company and the union screwed up on the open dates - both were wrong therefore the application was dismissed by the board.

HOWEVER you now have a new DE-CERT OPEN DATE STARTING FEB 2/03 - SO GET READY IT ALL STARTS AGAIN., AND YOU VOTED TO GIVE AWAY MORE OF YOUR WORK -

DE-CERT IT IS NOT OVER

In answer of an e-mail, I will set the record straight.

(1) The IBEW DID NOT WIN, SHAW DID NOT WIN. - The board threw out the application as both the IBEW & SHAW screwed up on the open dates - IT WAS A DRAW.

(2) SHAW will be at you again, the board has set a NEW OPEN DATE FOR A DE-CERT APPLICATION 2/2/03

The IBEW set you up to open your EXISTING CONTRACT and give away more of your work - so you won a little on outstanding grive. - big deal. SHORT TERM GAIN FOR LONG TERM PAIN.

So, now SHAW can tell all the TFR'S LOOK WHAT WE GOT FOR YOU - MORE WORK, - WE GOT THAT FOR YOUR THE IBEW DID NOT GIVE IT TO YOU - AND ALL THE PEOPLE THAT WERE LAID OFF - GEE - WE HAVE WORK FOR YOU - LOOK WHAT WE SHAW DID FOR YOU.

Boys I support you - It is really time to understand you are in BUSINESS THIS IS NOT A GAME - AND SHAW IS HARD NOSED - THEY DON'T LIKE YOU AND WANT YOU GONE ASAP.

FIGHT WITH EVERYTHING YOU HAVE - JUST READ WHAT THEY DID HERE IN TEXAS - THEY ARE BANDITS.

The best of luck.

IT IS NOT OVER

Just to let you all know - the LRB decision was not based on a WIN by either side - Both the company and the union had the open dates wrong.

The LRB has ruled that 2/2/03 the is a new open date for the De-Cert in N/Van - Fraser and White Rock.

And the company paid the members 2 hours pay to go and vote on items that the union refused to discuss with you - and would only discuss at the vote.

You voted away your jobs to forget a few filed grievances,

SHORT TERM GAIN FOR LONG TERM PAIN - watch the laid-off TFR'S from Van & Surrey to return doing installs.

And Surrey was advised that effective 2/3/03 the person in charge of Installs & Service is a non-union company supervisor.

It is just starting - just read previous posts on what happened here in Texas.

Scumbag Outfit

I worked for Shaw-dy in 2002. When they hired me they promised the world. I left my job apprenticing as an electrician to work for them as a union cable guy. The van, phone, gas card, etc. Right off the hop they only offered 50% union rate cuz "i was new". Raise promised every 6mths till max rate.

Well i worked hard, and just after my first raise, they toasted me, and about 60 other union guys..... said they're broke. lmfao

I told the cocksucker, "if i was the only guy selling pizza in western Canada (because there are no other cable providers up here for the western provinces) i think i could make it work".

Don't let the door slam u in the ass was the basic response.

So they continue to hire guys to work piece work (ya u get paid for what u install that day!), and scab together the network as cheaply as humanly possible for max profit.

Real ethical company......

Customer service doesn't speak english even when u do get thru after 20 min average wait, then to boot they bitchy cause they r "so busy"

We need more competition from the states.

Wonder why we hacked DirectTV so hard?

I wish the Shaw family nothing but harshness and ridicule.

@shawcable.net

You guys are missing the boat!

All this Canada US crap is so far off. The bottom line is Shaw is a shitty company. It has nothing to do with being Canadian. The biggest issue was labor laws. Shaw is so big in Canada they make there own Laws. They don't pay overtime. They pay piece work and can cut and don't pay for what workers do half the time. The strangle and fire any people that talk union.

They are building there company by stealling from there employees! Case in point is installers are making 50% of what they did 6 years ago and most salaried employee's get 1% yearly raises not even keeping up with inflation.

A couple years ago after the crash all shaw employees took cuts all cell phones ect were taken away, even cost for installers were cut. The companies value dropped 50% and then Shaw daddy takes a 7 million bonus and sonny takes a 6 million dollar interest free loan. This all happened 2 weeks before the new stock exchange rules came in that would have made this crap illegal.

Its not a Canada U.S. thing, Its a shitty company thing.
They couldn't screw the workers there to make it more profitable, so they screw everybody and sell it.
