| Port scan... Well, I've just received confirmation of all this crap by an automated email from sympatico. This is bullshit. They say in the email that I won't be touched by this "reform" since I don't download that much, well, their system is pretty f***d up since I did 11GB of download last month, and it is my average download per month; at this rate, I would pay 100$ for my ADSL deal. Pretty nice eh? Well, at this price I could get a faster connection without having a download/upload limit. They will probably say that they drop 4$ off the current price, but it isn't worth it. They say that they have a new Ultra High Speed connection.. yeah for 70$ a month with a 10GB limit; I won't download 10GB a month with a fast connection like this. It's all about money and no respect. A pretty good friend of mine talked about Hackers whom do port scans and starts to leech of your computer... What about that? It's not my responsability and Bell will actually bill you for that. Very good.... The moment another ISP comes with a high speed connection, I'm switching as fast as I can. Bell Sucks real time.. they need money and they will get it no matter what they do to their customers... They laughed at us... I hate this. Never thought I could be this angry toward Bell.

the sad part it is thoughts like this that will eventually put caps in all areas of broadband..
its not my fault I was hacked - yes it is its not my fault I leave kazaa/morpheous on for 9 days at a time - yes it is
I consider myself I a heavy user - I am online for at least an hour a day - during that time I will download quite a bit. I use file sharing programs.. but i do not leave them on while i am not at the computer. I make sure my computer is secure and is not breached so my connection cannot be used by others. If a friend needs a file i will open up a server on an odd port and let them log in ... with it set to turn the server off when they log off I have a good service for a good price, but if i abuse it it will cease to exist.
I pay Cogeco 40 dollars a month - I in return get a residential line for that gives me 3 megabit down and 384 kb up .... it is NOT my own personal ftp or web server.

| I thought Winfirst had a low bandwidth cap.. Man.. I thought Winfirst had a low Bandwidth cap, but then I read this! Winfirst is $49.95 for 10 Mbps / 10 Mbps and comes with a 30 Gb Download and Upload cap, and $1.25 for each other GB, also, say you Download 45 GB, and you Upload 37 GB, then your only charged for download (they charge for which ever is higher). If PacHell was like this, then they wouldn't even be in business! So.. if my math is correct, that 8% is 68,000 Users, on their current plan, that's $3,056,600! IMHO.. For most people, this is better then their original plan where the speed is at 960 Kbps / 120 Kbps @ $44.95. Also, out of those 8%, there is probably less then 1% that will hit the 10 GB download and upload cap, but that's still 8,500 users, which, on their current plan, is $382,075 a month (not to much for that big of a company). -- ** Speed 1471(down)/125(up) kbps **(At least 29 times faster than a 56k modem)Logged result.Finish. | |

| F@#K Bell You know what.... when this get put in place I am taking my HSE business elsewhere, 45/mo. My Bell LD 45/Mo. and my Bell Xpressvu 45/Mo.
I wonder is Look network still around?
Rogers? No way.... I'd go dialup first, someone will be in to pick up the slack....
LooK Network microwave Line of sight service is 1Mbit service with no cap.

| GOOD BYE SYPMATICO HELLO COGECO HAH 5 gig limit. i've done 160 in a month. i couldn't stand that. there upload caps are already so low for the price (in comparision to competition for the same price (128kbps vs 360kbps) its just not worth it, i'd rather take my chances with a static cable connection that doesn't limit the amount i can send/recieve. i'd be dead otherwise. cuz thats what i use the net for on a regular basis. i will never EVER subscribe to something that limits the amount i can get. so GOOD BYE 1mbps adsl, hello 3mbit cable for the SAME PRICE!! | |

| DialUP to the Rescue? I don't disagree with any of the comments here. I guess this is what comes from the public being misguided enuf to find broadband actually *useful*, and now that so many are on it, Bell Canada, Rogers, et al, are going to take advantage.
About monthly caps: 3 years ago I used DialUp for Usenet. Yes, it was slow(er), but since DialUp is based on "traditional" non-sexy technology, I'm prepared if need be to return to unlimited access for 20$ a month even at reduced speed.
Because, if so we called "hogs" pay the broadband ISP's ransom, you can be damn sure they'll slowly reduce the caps/increase the rates. Might as well send a clear message from the start -- ditch their service altogether. The starving DialUp ISPs will be grateful for the increased business: they actually locally compete against each other unlike the near-monopoly of national broadband, and so for the time being prices will be held in check by market forces as it should be.
In the end, in Canada, we might see the growth of pirated satellite Internet service, much as is going on with satellite TV. And the govt and Rogers/Bell can do $hit about it!

| Boycott Sympatico! This post is concerning Bell's new pricing and speed packages. I strongly recommend current subscribers write letters to Bell expressing their dissapointment with their new packages. I also recommend cancelling your HSE account as this would be a good way to show Bell that we do not support these new packages and their pricing policies. I will be cancelling my account when these plans come into effect and will be using dial-up accounts for checking my email and otherwise.
Thanks for taking the time to read my opinion.
