all ten of the games they've put out online? If they don't find the next pokemon the Gamecube won't be around this fall. Two or three good games in 6 months doesn't bode well for the future. -- Chicks dig me!!! |

| Don't cut Nintendo out yet...
Nintendo's supposed to have a HUGE E3 this year.. I really wouldn't cut them out of the market... this broadband thing probably won't do much, I just don't see it as a huge console market...
By this time next year I think that it'll be PS2, barely trailed by the Gamecube, with the XBox either gone or far behind.. -- "He who forgets will be destined to remember" |

It might not be that bad. Sega Dreamcast was really the first console to support online gaming, and most of the games only worked with a 56K modem. They did release a broadband adaptor, but only a few games work with it.
In any event, the 56K modem works fine for all the online sports games I've played like NFL2k1, NCAA2k2, NBA2k1, Tennis 2k2, etc. |

Of course the Xbox is losing in Japan to Japan game makers. Japanese support their on products unlike Americans. When I worked for a Japanese company in the US almost all the employees were Japanese and every one of them drove a Japanese car. My big US truck stuck out like a sore thumb hehe |

Including in the US. Cheif Xbox designer has resigned, or so they say. Xbox's controllers suck, except for the L and R buttons. Sony and Nintendo are where its at. -- The Power of DreamsPowered by Honda |

A year ago, people thought that MS would kill Nintendo, but the Gamecube is cheaper than any other system, so it's doing well. That's a real change from their old cartridge-based systems and games, which often cost more than the competition. The Xbox keeps dropping in price worldwide, I guess all the 30 year old geeks who could buy one already have, so they have to sell to kids now. BTW, MS released new smaller Xbox controllers in Japan to replace the huge ones it usually ships with. I think I saw them on sale here in the US the other day.

You know, I've noticed that support as well. Whenever I've gone to a site that was mainly Asian, all their cars were Japanese. (my big US vehicle stood out too) Come to think of it, when I go to a company that is mostly domestic workers, all their cars are Japanese too. Guess I am an eyesore no matter where I go. But the amount of broadband protocols that were supported was limited right? Did it not only support DHCP and Static..no PPPoE or PPPoA? -- "Insanity is hereditary, we get it from our children" |

| reply to TrustedZero i bought my xbox precisely because it came with a built in NIC and will only support broadband users. i don't want to play games that have to keep 56k users in mind when they design the games online play, i've got some bandwidth and i want my games designed to make the most of it...
we'll see how my decision works out here pretty soon, but i have a feeling i will find out i made the right choice |

Your friend is wrong. GameCube has been selling just as poorly as Xbox in Japan. For months, GameCube has been selling ~10,000 consoles per week. The Xbox had an "ok" Japanese launch, but it dropped off faster than shit and is now selling about <10,000 per week. The only next generation console that's done well in Japan has been the PlayStation 2. This is nothing new though, Japanese gamers have been shunning all non-Sony consoles (with the exception of the Gameboy) since the first PlayStation was released. |

| I think this could be great.
So what about dialup? Dreamcast and Sega|Net did great when I used the 50 free-hour trial of SegaNet on Quake III for dreamcast - liquid smooth and no lag I never saw this on PC You'd think that PC game makers would get their act together liket hey did for DC-Q3
That said, i'm looking forward to see how online play will turn out for the Gamecube, and how it will be implemented. What would be cooler, is if there was a way to get games that don't natively recognize the online ability to get it to work and have your buddies play online Gamecube with you (much like Kaillera for PC emulators, and some advanced console emulators can run ).
After all, you also have to realize that Nintendo's been in the business longer than any of the dominant players in existence. They know what they are doing, and this could easily turn out well. Microsoft would likely back theirs, as soon as they can get their *official* networks up for it, but I really don't think that $ony's plan would work - they'd probably just dump it like the PS2 dumped on some of its versions of games that came out for other systems . -- Everything AOL touches just plain sucks. Let's not waste our time talking about crappy consoles. And for the person that said all online games suck hasn't played Counter-Strike yet. Consoles are good to play with friends at home. And that's about it...In my opinion of course....And they are way overpriced as are the games for them........tower1[biteme] |

I disagree with you on the xbox. The games on thier are so much beter then nintendo. It is doing so well you can even play it online already. Unlike ps2 and gamecube you don't have to shell out extra money to play online. Once you try halo online you will be hooked. www.gamespy.com |
