We DO need to know or hundreds could be lost!

I don't care if they close or not, and I enjoyed the time I had their service connecting at 1.1 Mbps for only $20.00 a month since I was pro-rated for already having a modem.(That I purchased through Ebay for $80.00 heh, heh!) There IS a need to know if they're officially closed because winfire users are bound by a contract that forces them to pay hundreds if you sign up with another service! Today (Thursday March 01, 2000) I can't get a connection through winfire but have verified through another computer that I have no e-mail from them. I DO want to get on with my life and get a new isp but winfire doesn't really let you know what intentions are lurking.

Winfire has shut down its ISP

Thanks to those DSLreports users who responded to my request for assistance yesterday. You can read the story about the shutdown of Winfire here:

Re: Winfire has shut down its ISP

Chris-
I work for one of Winfire's Vendors and we are shutting off their network today. They have not filed Chapter 11 yet but they have not paid their bills since September and they laughed at us when we offered them the olive branch. After 5pm today there will no longer be a Winfire. No network-no dsl. I hope the Steelberg's can sleep at night (especially since they just bought a $3M home each.)

Just get a new provider!!!

I would just sign up with Telocity since they work with all the phone companies already and you get a free month and there's not contract to be stuck in. It's not free but it's better then nothing. I've heard some pretty good reports lately about them and since they got bought out by huge Hughes/GM then they're not going anywhere. Nice gateway box too.
