Why do you want that kind of capacity?

When I see people bashing on 128/512 ADSL (35usd)like the one I have, I ask me why do people want more than that... I use it for browsing, gaming, downloading some stuff, and making an occasional video-conference with my family in France (I live in portugal)... and it suits me...I have no problems whatsoever... I just complaint about the 128 Kb upload rate. Portugal "imports" 98% of the internet content it uses, because upload capacity just isn't there, so making our own servers for serving up local content isn't possible (contrary to the korean example where Internet concetions were served by a international link with 8Mb capacity until recently, when 10/4 Mb conections is almost a standard de facto)... SO Telcos end up paying a huge sum for the international part of the circuits... thus increasing the cost of serving ADSL clients, thus entining them on capping them down to slow download rates.

Now IF I was a P2Peer, not even 10Mb symetric would be enough... as I would want to download/share DVDs and not only Cds (and this is not minding piracy constraints)... vDSL will not be enough when it comes by... cos in that time blue ray disks will be widly available, and people will want to share/download them...

Cable companies will have to serve you with hdtv and their network will have to serve higher bandwiths for this purpose... ADSL and VoDSL is kind of ackward for the john doe user... cos tv either comes by air, or by cable...

Have fun!
